Art
Department:
· engages
students in opportunities to explore art forms of different ethnicities and
cultures across time.
· stresses
the importance of personal artistic response and personal creation in
conjunction with careful craftsmanship. Student artists utilize art as a
method for learning, personal production, thinking and growth. Student
artists apply focus to their work, thus producing quality products and
achieving personal growth.
· encourages
originality, choice, and responsibility in art-making.
· serves
the needs of diverse learners at a variety of skill levels.
Procedures:
· Be
in the room when class starts as per CTMS time. Tardies are reported with
attendance. If you are tardy to class, enter quietly and you MUST sign-in.
· Collect
your sketchbook and begin daily warm-up IMMEDIATELY.
· Remain
in your assigned seat. You should be out of your seat only to replenish
supplies or dispose of trash.
· You
have the privilege of using a 6-INCH VOICE while you work. This privilege
will be taken away from the class or you will be moved individually if you
abuse it. Talking should not keep you or anyone else from completing in
their work. Please do not disturb the class by speaking loudly or in a
disruptive manner.
· Be
courteous and respect other’s rights and property. This includes their
projects and supplies provided by the school.
· Clean-up
should be done efficiently and quietly so that we may spend maximum time on our
projects. Cleaning all of your work area includes tables, chairs, and
floor if necessary. Wash any materials you use and put them up to
dry. Do NOT leave them in the sink for someone else to clean! Wipe
up accidental spills. Wait until the teacher calls your table for
clean-up.
· Always
be sure to store your project in the correct place. Tune in to
instructions!
· Remain
seated until dismissed by the teacher. Push in chairs as you leave the
classroom.
If we all work
together to follow these basic procedures art will be fun and relaxing.
Even if you do not wish to pursue art as a career, you can still enjoy art as a
creative leisure time activity throughout your lifetime. I will introduce
you to new materials, techniques, and challenges, but you must supply the
creative spark! You must develop your skills and work hard to see your
“visions” become real works of art. Attend school every day and give your
best effort the entire period. I can guarantee that your diligence and
cooperation, you will be amazed and proud of what you can produce. You
are capable of great things!
The Round Rock ISD
art program is one in which we organize art knowledge and skills through
integration of four basic strands – perception, creative expression/performance,
historical and cultural heritage, and critical evaluation.
Grading Policy:
As in all subjects,
you will receive a numerical grade each six weeks. If you are uneasy
about grades in art, let me reassure you that I do not expect you to be an
accomplished artist. I do expect you to listen to directions and
guidelines, suggestions for “how-to,” accept every challenge (even if you are
not familiar with the materials), and try very hard to complete the
project. You may come in before school (Tues. or Thurs.), or after school
on Wednesdays with an appointment if you need extra time to finish a
project. For six weeks grades I consider the following:
Projects
50% (Craftsmanship, effort, mastery
of skill presented, completion)
Project Mid-Point Assessment 15% (Mid-project grade)
Progress 15% (Daily classroom interaction/progress)
Sketchbook 20% (Assigned topics/daily warm-up)
I will always give
you a list of grading criteria when a project is first introduced, so that you
know my expectations.
