Dear Parents/Guardians/Students of Art 6, Art 7/8, Art 8 and Advanced Art 8:
We are glad that you have chosen Visual Art as an elective! We would like for you to know a little about our philosophy of art and our mission. We believe that each one of us is a creative individual and that our role as the teacher is to work with each student to sharpen their individual skills, expand their knowledge of art as a subject and utilize those skills throughout other areas of their life now and in the future. We feel that their experience in class should help them be a well-rounded individual who has learned to appreciate art and their environment.
We will explore a multitude of media throughout the year and will continually work on a core set of skills to improve each student’s ability to observe, render, interpret and appreciate. To achieve this goal, each student will pay a $15 class fee that covers such personal items as a hardbound sketchbook and related materials. Please make checks payable to CTMS, include your driver’s license number on the check and send to your child’s art teacher. EVERY student must have their class fee paid by Wednesday, September 9, 2009 as we will begin daily sketchbook activities etc… at that time.
We expect each of our students to participate to the best of their ability and come to class prepared to learn each day. Our mission is:
The Chisholm Trail Middle School Art Department:
· engages students in opportunities to explore art forms of different ethnicities and cultures across time.
· stresses the importance of personal artistic response and personal creation in conjunction with careful craftsmanship. Student artists utilize art as a method for learning, personal production, thinking and growth. Student artists apply focus to their work, thus producing quality products and achieving personal growth.
· encourages originality, choice, and responsibility in art-making.
· serves the needs of diverse learners at a variety of skill levels.
