Artyouth
The Empty Bowl Project made $350 on Thursday, May 7th! Thanks to faculty and students
for supporting our cause for hunger relief by giving to the Round Rock Serving
Center. Our last Artyouth meeting of the year was Monday, May 18th and we had a
blast! Thanks to all artyouth for an AWESOME year!

Portfolios
Portfolios are going home THIS week! All portfolios MUST be taken home by Friday, May
22nd at the end of the student’s assigned class period. Ceramic work will come home
the week of May 25th.

Grades
Progress reports are coming out this Friday! Is your child coming for tutorials?
Where is your child with their grade in art? Do they have missing work? If so,
please get them to a morning tutorial to catch-up. If you have questions regarding a
grade, please call or email your art teacher. Remember, grades are posted in both art
rooms each Friday morning and students are aware of their progress. Additionally, we
both encourage parents to use the Home Access Center option of Gradespeed to check
your child’s progress in not only our classes, but all their others at CTMS as well!
Call the school at 464.2500 if you have questions on this monitoring option for
parents.

Online Lesson Plans
We are working campus-wide to put our lessons online for our community to see what is
happening day-by-day in our classrooms. Check out the lesson plan link to the left
for plans in visual art. Plans for each course are posted online weekly.

Curriculum Focus for the week of May 11-15, 2009

Art 6
Check out Mrs. Kutz's page for plans regarding Art 6.

Art 7/8
We continue a unit on one-point perspective by exploring work of the Renaissance
masters and Surrealism. Students get hands-on practice as we learn how to
systematically make depth in our drawing. Students are building a city with
dislocated inhabitants – ask your child to explain!

Art 8
This week we begin one of our final projects working on a handscape. Students are
reviewing Surrealism and creating a landscape that incorporates their hands in an
active or passive stance with the landscape. Watch for GREAT results of this final
drawing project in color or black and white!

Power Art
This innovative class is meshing visual art and math together continues their unit on
cost approximation. Students are creating Silly Sock Creatures and soft sculpture as
we figure out the cost of items etc.... in preparation for TAKS. We also will work on
a new project as we do small group TAKS prep.

Advanced Art 8
Students continue to work on the scanner project this week. We also continue work on
a charcoal drawing inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy. Be sure to check out the
scanner project link at left if you forgot your day to scan. We still have a few who
have not completed this layered project. In addition, there is a new altered book
project due Friday, May 29th. Check the page at left for instructions.

Have a GREAT week! Live art.
