About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
I graduated from Texas State University-San Marcos, TX. Go Bobcats! While I was attending the creative writing program from their graduate school, I was a substitute teacher and fell in love with teaching at the middle school level. I became a paraprofessional for Chisholm Trail in January of '06 and got accepted into the iteachTexas program to receive my certification. Lucky for me, there was an open position for a Language Arts teacher at the end of the school year in 2006 and I accepted it because I didn't want to go anywhere else. Another fun fact about me, I'm a Round Rock High Alumnus. Go Dragons! I believe the best method for students to grow as readers and writers is the writing workshop approach. Usually a day consists of a mini-lesson for about 10 minutes, individual work time for 30 minutes while I have student/teacher conferences or reteaching skills in small groups, and sharing our ideas/work for the last minutes of class. Katie Wood Ray's "The Writing Workshop" is a great book that explains the workshop method. We also use the writer's notebook to express our thoughts on paper. Read Ralph Fletcher's "A Writer's Notebook" plus his many other books about how he uses his notebook. He's a wonderful writer for teens and adults. Randy Bomer and Tom Romano are my other mentor teachers that have great books about creating life-long readers and writers. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. I continue to learn and grow as a teacher and a person. You can also check out my teacher blog. It is under the Links page. I'm also the sponsor for Student Council & the Creative Writing Club for CTMS.
Mission Label:
Mission
I want to challenge my students to become better readers, writers, and thinkers! I want all of them to consider themselves as writers by the end of the year. My 3 Goals for this year: 1. Use more technology with my students. (I plan for them to create blogs and display some of their writing & thoughts on their blogs as well as use other computer programs like Glogster, Prezi, Animoto, etc.) 2. Improve on my feedback to my students and give them more time and opportunities to self-evaluate themselves. 3. Use more multiple choice with short written responses common assessments with the other two Langauge Arts teachers, so we can use the data to see where we can improve as teachers and if we need to do any reteaching of certain skills.
