Will my child be reading by the end of Kindergarten?

Some children read sooner than others. All children progress at their own
rate. We do have reading groups in Kindergarten and do literacy activities
daily. He/She should know all of the letters and their sounds, begin
blending, recognize rhyming words and some sight words by the end of
Kindergarten. Reading nightly at home with your child is very important as
well.

What does my child need to bring to school?

Your child should bring his/her backpack and daily folder every day to
school. The daily folder is a tool to keep you informed of your child's
daily behavior, homework and reminders. Please see the supply list for
things to bring for the school year.

Can my child bring toys to school?

I only allow toys or special items on Show and Tell day. We have
classroom toys, cars, dolls, blocks and many others that we use. This
policy keeps personal toys safe from being lost or broken and it makes our
Show and Tell time that much more special.

Will my child be on the internet/webpage?

Your child's picture will only be on the webpage if a special permission
slip has been signed. The name of the student is NEVER listed with his/her
picture, and most of the time I only show pictures of their work.

Do you have technology training?

Yes! We go to computer lab twice a week for forty five minutes.

What are the school times?

Students may be dropped off as early as 7:30 in the cafeteria for
breakfast. They are dismissed to class at 7:50 and are considered tardy
after 8:00. We dismiss at 3:00.

How can I reach you?

I am available in the morning before school and in the afternoon after
school. My conference period is from 9:00 to 9:45 in the morning. I can be
emailed at dwheeler@couplandisd.org or phoned at 512-856-2422. I do not
have a direct line to my classroom, so if there are any transportation
changes for the afternoon PLEASE call the office and they will deliver the
message.

--------------------------------------

Will my child have homework in Kindergarten?

Yes. Each homework assignment is approximately five minutes, unless
it is a special home project. This is mostly to get your child in the habit
of reading nightly and having to do a school related activity.

What will my child learn in Kindergarten?

In Kindergarten we learn many things through play and games. For more
detailed information on the concepts we cover, check out the link to our
Kindergarten TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge Skills).

Are you ESL Certified?

Not at the moment. It is, however, on my list of short term goals.
