Pentathlon Games

 

Purpose of the Games:  Let the Games Begin!

 

For the next 3 weeks we will review for the TAKS test by competing in the Pentathlon games.  These 5 events are designed to help each of you reach your goal that you have already set for yourself.  Each of you will be assigned to a team that you will work with throughout the three weeks.  You will be expected to help your team out by participating actively on practice days.  This means if you understand how to do the question, you will “teach” the others in your group, and if you don’t understand, you will ask your team how to do it.  On game days you will play individually so if you didn’t learn the concept the previous day, your score will hurt your team.  The object of the games is to have your team gain more points (by getting correct answers to questions) than the other teams. 

 

 

Practice Days

 

On practice days we will review a variety of concepts in class. All of these concepts will be concepts we’ve already learned this year.  Your team will be given a worksheet on those concepts.  Your team will be given an answer document to record your team’s answers.  There will be approximately 20 questions on that worksheet.  These worksheets will count as Homework grades. You will also be eligible to earn rewards based on your score.  It is extremely important that all players on your team understand the process to answer each question since you will be tested on these questions the next day.

 

 

Job Duties:

Everyone is responsible for working every problem.  Leadership roles will be shared among the group.  This is part of your daily participation grade.

 

 

Game Days

 

On game days you will take a 10 question quiz that will be similar to the questions you worked on together on the practice day.  Since each team has a different number of players on the team, a team average will be given for scores earned that game day.  These worksheets will count as quiz grades.  (There will be four games in all). 

 

Rewards:

 

Practice days Worksheets - Team members will receive the following:

              90-100 – treat      

            

Game Day Worksheets - Individuals will receive the following:

              90-100 – Free Homework PASS 

              80-89 – treat

 

 

Grand Prize:

 

-  1st place team from each class will receive a pizza and ice cream party sometime after TAKS!!!

 

-  2nd place team from each class will receive an ice cream party sometime after TAKS!!!
