Pre-AP Science Lesson Plans & Homework

This page is updated weekly on Mondays (or Tuesday if Monday is a school holiday) by 3:10 p.m. These plans are subject to change depending on progress of plans each day in class. Schedule changes, interruptions, time shortages, and overly ambitious plans by Mr. Dunn may all contribute to these plans altering mid-week. When time permits, Mr. Dunn will try to update this page as changes occur, but that is not always possible. The planner is always your best guide and most accurate homework guide.

Monday, November 30, 2009-

- Pass back and go over most missed questions on Pre-AP Chpt. 4 Forces & Motion TEST from last Fri.

- Check & correct both sides of Chpt. 7 Forces Shaping the Earth Note Taking WS.

- Discuss as time allows layers of the Earth, tectonic plates, plate boundaries, possible outcomes when plates collide, and isostasy/convection of mantle.

Homework:        Complete both sides of Pre-AP Layers of the Earth & Plate Movements WS due Tues. 12/1 for 4th & 6th period classes and Wed. 12/2 for 3rd period class!   Work on Tectonic Plates Diagrams project due Fri. 12/4.

Tuesday, December 1, 2009 & Wednesday, December 2, 2009- SMART Days!

- Check & correct both sides of Pre-AP Layers of the Earth & Plate Movements WS

- Reinforce and discuss layers of the Earth, tectonic plates, plate boundaries, possible outcomes when plates collide, and isostasy/convection of mantle.

- Clean out notebooks- remove all science papers EXCEPT those needed for Table of Contents #5 and current Chpt. 7 Forces Shaping the Earth materials.

- Go over parameters and clarify directions of Tectonics Plates Diagrams due on Fri. 12/4.
- Work with partner(s) in lab on Birth of The Earth & Plate Tectonics Web Quest using computers, Mr. Dunn’s website, and a listing of links about Plate Tectonics, layers of the Earth, and formation of the Earth.

- Observe and analyze lab demo by Mr. Dunn on convection occurring inside the Earth causing plate movements.

Homework:        Complete both sides of Pre-AP Intricate Makeup & Dynamic Continuing Evolution of Earth WS (why on Earth did I make the title of this worksheet so incredibly LONG!?!?!?) due Thurs. 12/3 for a grade!   Work on Tectonic Plates Diagrams project due Fri. 12/4.  Finish Web Quest packet at your pace (if you like- otherwise some additional time (15 min.) will be given in class on Thursday to complete it.

Thursday, December 3, 2009-

- Check, correct, trade & grade both sides of Pre-AP Intricate Makeup & Dynamic Continuing Evolution of Earth WS (Seriously though, why on Earth did I make the title of this worksheet so incredibly LONG!?!?!?).

- Discuss and review any of Chpt. 7 important concepts for Quiz tomorrow- plate tectonics, layers of the Earth, types of plates, types of plate interactions and results (Ex. Continental-continental collisions lead to mountains), 4 types of mountains, what causes earthquakes, volcanoes, mid ocean ridges, and deep ocean trenches.

- Finish Birth of The Earth & Plate Tectonics Web Quest using internet and Mr. Dunn’s website on computer with your partner(s).

Homework:        STUDY all Chpt. 7 materials and WSs for Chpt. 7 Quiz tom.!  Organize notebooks and print out TOC for Notebook TEST #5 tom.!   Finish Tectonic Plates Diagrams project due tom.!  Start working, if you have time, on reading p. 175-186 and completing your Chpt. 6 Rocks Note Taking WS due Mon. 12/7.
