Syllabus

Welcome to our class at Cross Timbers Middle School!  My goal is to help my students become better problem solvers, lifelong learners, and to have a successful year.

Materials

In order to be a successful learner, each student must bring the following items to class everyday:

  • 3-ring binder with a section for math
  • a spiral that will be used as your math journal
  • planner
  • red grading pen
  • pencils with erasers
  • notebook paper
  • assignments

Hall Pass

Students may leave the classroom only with permission.  All students who leave the classroom will use their planner, with teacher’s signature, as their hall pass.  There are to be no exceptions to this rule.

Behavior

I will expect every student to:

·         Be courteous and polite at all times to their classmates and their teacher.

·         Be in your seat and ready to begin class when the bell rings.

·         Be prepared to learn and participate by bringing all necessary supplies and completing the required assignments every day.

·         Always follow all school and/or classroom rules and policies.

Discipline

If a student exhibits inappropriate behaviors in class, the offense is documented and the following consequences will occur:

·         1st offense – warning

·         2nd offense – teacher/student conference

·         3rd offense – teacher/parent contact

·         4th offense – detention hall

·         Severe Claus – office referral

Tardies

Students are to be seated in their assigned classrooms and ready for the day’s assignments before the tardy tone sounds.

·         1st offense – teacher/student conference

·         2nd offense – detention hall till 4 PM

·         3rd offense – extended detention hall till 5 PM

·         4th offense – office referral

Absentee Work

The following is taken from the GCISD Student Handbook.  “Students shall be expected to make up assignments and tests after an excused absence.  Students shall be allowed one school day for every school day missed, plus one additional school day, to make up work or tests.  If a student submits all make-up work and completes all tests on time, they have the opportunity to receive full credit.”

It is the STUDENT’S responsibility to find out what assignment(s) they missed while they were absent.  Assignments are located in the classroom and on the internet at http://teacherweb.com/TX/CrossTimberMiddleSchool/MrsKamerman .

Assignments

  • You are responsible for writing the assignments in your planner.
  • All assignments need to be headed with:  Student’s Name (First and Last); Teacher’s Name; assignment; and date.
  • There will be class work that grades will be taken at random.
  • There will be homework given Monday through Thursday.
  • Quizzes will be given on Friday.
  • A test will be given at the end of a unit.
  • Assignments need to be done in pencil unless otherwise requested.
  • Returned assignments, quizzes, and tests should be placed in your 3-ring notebook to use for semester and end of year tests.
  • Student should be prepared to have an hour or more work outside of the classroom daily.

Test Retakes

A student will be given an opportunity to retake a test on which they scored below 70%.  The retest will be given at a designated time determined by the teacher.  The test and a form for the parent to sign and return will be required to take the test.

Grading

Students will be allowed to have 2 late homework assignments each six weeks.  It will be noted in the grade book.  The assignment needs to be turned in the next day.  After two late assignments are accepted, any further late assignments will result in a zero.

The following grading scale will be used:

·         Tests/Projects:  45%

·         Quizzes:  5%

·         Class Work/Homework:  50%

Each student will receive a midterm grade report after the third week in the grading period.
