Welcome to the Skills for Living home page! Some important things you will need this semester:

1 un-opened pack of double A batteries.(baby think it over)

2 seperate peices of 1 yard and 1 quarter Fleece (blankets)

Skills for Living

Course Expectations

 

Purpose:

The purpose of this course is to give the student an inside view into the development and coping skills necessary to function efficiently in our society on a personal, social, and family level.

The topics to be covered but not limited to: Family Relationships and Personal Development; Nutrition and Cooking Basics and Safety. Grooming, Clothing, Child Development and Basic Sewing.  Classroom Projects and activities will include personality development and relationships, career experiences and a basic sewing project that will require each student to purchase two pieces of 1 yard fleece fabric. The major project of the semester will be the infant baby simulator each child will be responsible for the simulator for a 48 hour period.

 

 

Attendance and Makeup Work:

  1. The student will be on time, in his/her seat and prepared to work when the tardy bell rings. Please remember that I DISMISS CLASS NOT THE BELL.  The school guidelines concerning unexcused tardies will be followed.
  2. Assignments will be neat, legible and on time.  A ten (10) point- reduction in grade will be calculated for each late day on daily assignments. A fifteen (15) point reduction will be made on all MAJOR PROJECTS!
  3. Makeup work is the RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT.
  4. Each student will be required to write daily assignments in the school assigned planner and this will also be the students pass in class. The student will NOT be allowed to leave class if he/she does not have their planner.

 

 

                Supplies:

  1. Binder/Folder with brads
  2. Loose leaf paper for folder
  3. Pens and Pencils
  4. The student may need to provide materials for other major projects and I will send a note home giving details on the project and what it will entail.
  5. It is encouraged that the student has a set of markers, glue and scissors.

 

 

Classroom Behavior:

  1. The student is expected to abide by all classroom guidelines and procedures including “Student Code of Conduct”.

Misbehavior and Tardiness will be corrected with the following:

A.     Warning,

B.     Followed by an afternoon detention and a phone call to parents.

C.     Last but not least a referral to the office.

     

  1. Bathroom passes will be limited to 3 per six weeks on an emergency basis with a planner present. 

Students should be prepared to remain in the classroom when class begins and until class is over.

  1. The student is expected to do the following in order to create a positive and safe learning environment:

A.     Bring supplies to class each day.

B.     Pick up after your self; PLEASE place all trash and paper in the trashcan.

C.     No HORSEPLAY during class.

D.     Please do not talk and disturb your classmates. Raise your hand for assistance!

E.      NO GUM

4. Students will abide by the district policy and will not be allowed to have MP3 players, cameras and cell phones. School procedures and policies apply to this at all times in the classroom.

 

Grading:

Each unit will be tested multiple choice, true-false, completion and essay questions. The six-week grades will be based on the following:

Daily Grades (40%) - class assignments, handouts, worksheets and small projects

Major Grades (60%) - labs, unit tests, and major projects
