Students interested in this class must have taken Theatre 7/8 and/or Theatre
II, must be entering eighth grade, fill out an application, and must have
teacher approval prior to enrollment. This is a full-year class. We do not

When are Drama Club meetings?

We will try to hold meetings twice a month, usually every other Thursday.
The Drama Club officers will announce meetings and we encourage all members
to participate and join us. A meeting schedule is also posted on the call
board in the drama room. This is a great way to get involved with the
theatre program!

What is the International Thespian Society?

It is the honor society that recognizes excellence in educational theatre.
We are members of the society, Junior Thespian Troupe #88588. Membership
into the society is earned by receiving points for hours spent doing quality
theatre work. Inductions are usually held twice a year (November and March),
and the cost for thespian dues is $10.00. This covers tshirt and lifetime
dues. Jr. Thespians can earn as many as 100 points during their tenure at
DMS, and can earn 5 Star Honors. 5 points from Jr. Thespian membership
transfer to the CSHS Theatre Arts program's International Thespian Society
troupe if a student continues to be actively involved with theatre arts
throughout high school.

How do students stay academically eligible to participate in theatre arts?

All students who elect to participate in the theatre program after normal
school hours must be passing all classes with a 70 or higher in order to be
eligible, per Texas HB 72 and Senate Bill 1. A student whose grades fall
below a 70 at the end of a six week period will be deemed ineligible to
participate, unless he/she is able to bring their grade up to passing within
a three week progress reporting period, at which time, the student is
reinstated to participate. This is the state law and the theatre director
takes this very seriously, as do any students who choose to be members of
the theatre arts program. Academics come first. Period. Students who are
struggling with core academics are highly encouraged to attend morning and
advisory tutorials and the Extended Day program after school to seek the
help they need in order to maintain passing grades.
