WELCOME BACK!!! I know this is a week late, but things are finally getting settled down here and I realized I didn't update my families on what we are doing or how things went over the break.
Over the break as you all know I got married to my now husband, Jason Sanchez. Our wedding was on December 19th and was amazing! I will post a few pictures once I get them from my photographer. On the 20th we were scheduled to fly to New York City, well the blizzard of 2009 that hit the east coast the day of our wedding changed those plans. We had to get to New York by Monday afternoon because we had non-refundable tickets to see Wicked on Broadway Monday night. So... Sunday morning we raced to the airport and told them our sad story and told them one way or another we needed to get to New York...little did we know we would fly across the whole east side of the United States until we got there. We flew that day to Atlanta, Georgia at 4:30....had a 2 hour lay over there and at 9 we flew to Cleveland, Ohio...had a 6 hour lay over there (overnight in an airport...not too fun) and then the next morning at 6 we flew to New York! Once we got there we just hit the ground running, since we were shorted 1/2 a day. We didn't miss anything except for seeing Good Morning America Monday morning. While in New York we went to Broadway, took a double decker tour around the whole city, went to the Empire State Building, Ground Zero, saw the Statue of Liberty, danced on the big piano at F.A.O Schwarz, and went to see the Rockettes in the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. We did all that in ohh 3 DAYS!!! We felt like true New Yorkers running around everywhere. We flew home Christmas Eve and spent our time between my family and his family and my family and his family! I had a bridesmaid fly in from Germany so she stayed a week after the wedding with us, so I also spent time with her. Then right before New Years everyone went home and Jason and I rang in the New Years with a few friends and sparklers. The rest of the break was spent unpacking wedding gifts, Christmas gifts and resting!!
Enough about me let's talk about how excited I am to be back!!! I couldn't wait for each one of my precious angels to walk in the door last Monday! I am so glad everyone had a great break and has come back ready to learn.
As always, check the green sheet communication form in your child's folder for weekly updates on class studies and weekly events. This is a duplication of that information
Now for the important part of going to school.
Math:
We are currently working on time. They need to be able to tell time to 5 minute increments, for example 11:25, 11:30, 11:35....not 11:47 (that will come in 3rd grade). This is another topic that needs practice, practice, practice.....so if you could pull out those face clocks and have your child practice telling time at home.
Language Arts:
We are reading different books where the author uses persuasion in the story. This goes along with writing where we will be writing a persuasive piece. Sorry, if you here more persuading going on at home--they are practicing what we are learning :)
Social Studies / Science:
We are learning about weather, the seasons, and telling temperature this week in Science.
Remember to talk to your child nightly about what they are learning at school. If they come home with anything less than a S+ please talk to them about the choices they are making at school.
