Valentine's Class Party
This Friday from 1:30- 2:30
We have been snowed in and have been working tirelessly toward the goals that we set for ourselves in our New Year's Resolutions. Our class is doing a fabulous job with our PBS goal setting. Students are currently working on receiving "hearts" for being caught following the rules and being responsible.
A letter was sent home this past Friday regarding our upcoming class party. We hope to see as many of you as possible to come out help make this a fun time for the kids. We are surely going to need some hands to help with all of the activities. Thanks to those of you who are already sending in supplies for the festivities. We certainly appreciate your generosity and support.
This month is a short month but a busy month. Another one of our huge events will be TAKS PARENT ORIENTATION NIGHT! Yea! It will be Wednesday February17th. We look forward to all of you coming out to learn more about how to help your child with their TAKS Homework Strategies.
Please remember that Wednesday, February 10th is EARLY RELEASE. The third graders will also be taking a practice TAKS test for math like we did last week for Reading. The majority of the kids did an amazing job. We had four 100's. That was awesome! We are looking for some great results on the math as well. Please keep helping them learn their math facts
Our schedule this week -February 8-12th:
Math: Fractions- Recognizing parts of groups and solving problems with fractions.
They are also expected to practice their basic addition, subtraction AND multiplication facts at home.
Reading: They will be studying an author's craft through novels and using reading skills and strategies( context clues, summaries, main idea and details) as they respond to the reading and complete reading assignments. They will have end of book projects to complete in class as well- research, book reports, etc.
They will also be reading independently- from self selected books,and getting in those 100 minutes for at home reading. Students are able to check out library books each week. Our regular day is Friday. Please look in their Dino Folder for their reading logs and sign daily. For students NOT meeting their weekly minutes they miss Recess and attend Study Hall to catch up their minutes.
Writing: Completing their comparative writing piece and writing to their favorite book character.
Spelling: Unit 23 Changing "y" to "i" Students were given a new Tic -TAc- Toe Board a couple of weeks ago( some of the assignments are alreaady familiar to them we have just added a few new choices. This week the choices are: Million $ Word, Tongue Twisters, ABC Order and Pre- Test for Thursday night.
Science: Soil Investigations
