Spanish is an academic elective. Students who successfully complete both
Spanish 1A and 1B will receive high school credit for 1 year of Spanish and
will be eligible for Spanish 2 in high school.
Learning a foreign language is rewarding and fun, but it is also challenging
and requires hard work and dedication. Students SHOULD STUDY AND PRACTICE
VOCABULARY DAILY, in addition to completing regularly assigned homework and
projects.
Homework will be assigned on a regular basis. In addition to written
homework, students should STUDY VOCABULARY EVERYDAY for at least 15 minutes
to help with memorization. I cannot stress to you how important this is.
Some suggestions: make flashcards, create a practice test, say vocabulary
words out loud multiple times, write out translations several times, study
with a classmate, have someone quiz you, or even teach a family member. If
you take those 15 minutes everyday to drill yourself, you will notice a
difference.
In Spanish 1B we will focus on the second half of the Spanish 1 curriculum.
We will start the year by reviewing material from Spanish 1A before we begin
our new unit from chapter 5. Please refer to the agenda page for information
on our current unit, quiz and test dates, and assignments. I will do my best
to update that information on a regular basis.
