Deerpark Awesomeness

To prepare for the C.A. over energy, Mrs. Engelke used the daily starter to demonstrate effective strategies such as: how to cross out words or statements that were not needed to answer the question, identify each answer choice as a true or false statement, circle words if the meaning was known, write notes in the margin after previewing charts, maps, tables, graphs, etc. before reading the question, etc.  
 
She also made sure they knew what to use to study (pg #’s from the textbook, class work and homework activities completed during the unit, a quiz they had corrected together, etc.).

 

During the test, she provided a copy of the test for each student and stressed the importance of using the strategies they had been practicing.  

A majority of the students actually used the strategies practiced in class. Those who had done this showed marked improvement on their test scores. And for this test (Energy Test), there was a 79% passing rate with 35% of the students testing receiving an A.
