The position covers a very wide range of jobs and responsibilities. I work
at being a Classroom Supporter, Data Analyzer, Learning Facilitator,
Curriculum & Instruction/Literacy Specialist, Resource Provider, and a
Researcher & Learner. My goals focus on strengthening literacy in ALL
classes, so I work with teachers to incorporate effective instructional
methods that will improve reading success and create more independent
learners.
(For more info., see "The Question and Answer Portion".)
I have 12 years of teaching experience, 10 of which were spent in Round Rock
at Hopewell Middle School teaching English/Language Arts and Reading. I am
very happy to be at Deerpark as the Literacy Coach-- I feel very lucky to
have the opportunity to work with such dedicated and talented teachers and
administrators.
Unsurprisingly, I love to read ...a LOT. I really can't say how many books
I'm in the middle of reading at the moment, but the more I read, the more
interesting subjects and authors I discover. I am also addicted to music,
and I love *almost* all kinds (no contemporary country for me, though,
thanks). The excellent music scene is one of the main reasons I love
living in Austin. There is more really good live music available here to
entertain than I can ever have time to enjoy. But I'm trying!
I also like to write and play my bass guitar-- two things I do only for
myself for now. My dog, Eli, is my last (but not nearly least) favorite way
to spend my time outside of work. He's a Rhodesian Ridgeback that I was so
lucky to get to adopt.
