About Our Counseling ProgramDouble File Trail Elementary School's Guidance and Counseling Program is based on the American School Counselor Association's recommended model which includes the following components: Guidance Curriculum Individual Planning Responsive Services System Support Each class receives bi-weekly guidance lessons focusing on the selected monthly character traits, career and college preparation, anti-bullying strategies and an array of relevant topics. In addition, small groups meet during lunch to focus on areas such as study skills, anger management, social skills, leadership skills, family rupture (i.e. separation, divorce, death). Short-term individual counseling sessions are available as well for students who are in crisis. Referrals for more intensive services, such as wrap around care are also generated through the counseling office. The counselor also attends all Student Support Meetings. The Guidance and Counseling Program also supports the district goals of: Providing programs and services to assist students to fully develop their academic career, and personal/social abilities in order to reach their full educational potential. Assuring that our school and community has a safe, orderly and drug-free learning environment. Accelerating TAKS gains for economically disadvantaged, African American, and Hispanic students to reduce the achievement gap. Increase the percentage of underrepresented minority students enrolled in Advanced Placement, Dual Credit, International Baccalaureate. and Algebra I courses. Increase the graduation rate for economically disadvantaged, African American and Hispanic students. |
