NJHS FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
1st What are things we have planned for this year? Bake Sales, Powder Puff game, Canned Food Drive, End of year party, possible baseball game and bowling activities, Relay for Life. See the Calendar section for specifics on dates and info about each meeting. How can students get service hours? Current NJHS members need six service hours per each semester, three of which should be off campus. The NJHS will identify and publicize service hour opportunities periodicaly. Members may also perform service hours on their own. Some ideas that can count as service hours are: Bake Sales, Making Posters, Volunteering at the elementary carnivals etc.. NJHS members must fill out service hour forms for their hours to be counted. When/Where is the Induction Ceremony? The Induction Ceremony is typically held during the spring semester in the evening. NJHS members are required to attend a rehearsal and the Induction Ceremony in the Dowell Cafeteria. What is an NJHS student's time commitment? Members should be present at all meetings and functions. They must earn six service hours per semester. They can earn these hours by working fundraisers. No student need commit to everything, nor commit more than one extra hour a week if even that. What are the grade requirements for NJHS? Students must maintain an overall average of 90% or better in all of their classes combined. Who can I contact for more information? February 20th in the library 3:05-3:45 Why are we starting 25 cent dues each meeting? Snacks cost about $30 per meeting. We don't have funds to cover that. Where do I get service hour forms? E208 Ms. Griffith or during the NJHS Meeting Will there be an induction ceremony for the new members this fall? An induction ceremony in the spring will be combined with a graduating member honor ceremony at the end of the year. If I was in NJHS at another school, do I have to reapply at Dowell? No, see Ms. Griffith, E208 or Ms. Hunt G101 and plan on coming to our next meeting. I heard NJHS was organizing committees. What are they? The committees are for organizing students into groups to work on different NJHS needs. The committees are: Posters, Fundraising, Service, Social, Cleanup, Recognition, Snack/Dues. Each group will have a designated number of spots and members will sign up at the next meeting. What can I make for the Bake Sale? You can make cupcakes, brownies, cookies and anything that can be individually wrapped. What can I put the baked goods that I made in? Ziploc baggies. If you have cupcakes, you may leave them in a tray or on a plate. What are the contact emails for NJHS? Yes, we would like all of the members to wear their NJHS shirt to every meeting and activity related to the organization that they attend. Where can I get my NJHS shirt? You can get your NJHS shirt order form at the meetings or you can contact Mrs. Hunt or Mrs. Griffith about the shirts. Do I need to tell anyone if I am not going to come to a meeting? Yes, anyone who cannot come to a meeting needs to have an excuse and needs to contact Hani Pajela, hanster227@gmail.com. If you have not attended 3 meetings and have not had an excused absence or contacted anyone, then you will be removed from NJHS. Students will have an opportunity to appeal these decisions if there are extenuating circumstances. |
