First Grade

First Graders come to the library each week for a 30 minute class.  They 
have a storytime followed by the opportunity to check out books.  In 
First Grade, we do author studies each week. 

In First Grade, we have Corduroy Reading Buddies.  Students are encouraged 
to write the name of a book that they read or was read to them on a Corduroy 
slip.  Each day, a name is drawn, and the winner gets to carry around a 
Corduroy stuffed doll for the day.

First Graders get to check out 2 books at a time.  We encourage the "Just 
Right Book" program where 1 of the books they select is on their reading 
level.  The other book can be any book of their choice.  They can keep the 
books for up to 2 weeks before they are overdue, or they can return them at 
anytime and get more books.
