Second Graders come to the library each week at a scheduled time for check
out. They are allowed 2 books plus a magazine at one time. The check out
period is 2 weeks. After that time, materials are considered overdue, and
library privileges are suspended until the materials are returned. Of
course, students do not have to keep materials for the full 2 weeks. They
can return them at anytime and find something else of interest.
A favorite library activity for Second Graders is the Accelerated Reader
program. AR is a computerized reading program which involves students
reading certain books, taking an electronic comprehension quiz, and winning
points based on their success. Second graders are required to earn 5 points
within a 6 week grading period to make the "point club". They can redeem
the points earned for prizes. This year's AR theme is "Sail into Learning
by Reading".
