I have a piano/choral music degree from Henderson State University, in
Arkansas, and I have done graduate work here in Texas. This is my 22nd year
to teach music in the public school system. I have played piano for
everything from Broadway productions to gospel quartets, to All State Choir
rehearsals to even recording my own piano solo album. I have also been a
Minister of Music in the Baptist church for several years. I have been
married to Pam Platt, the music teacher at Carroll Elementary, for 34
years. We have no children, but we claim all of our children at school as
our own. My hobbies include computers, swimming, shopping with my wife
(Well, she does the shopping, and I just go along to eat a lot of fast
food.), and working around my house. My favorite song is "Somewhere,
Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz. My favorite places to eat are
Chili's and just about anywhere they serve hamburgers.
My goal is not to just teach music, but to teach "THE ENJOYMENT OF MUSIC"!!!
Why Do We Teach Music?
Not because we expect you to major in music.
Not because we expect you to play or sing all your life.
Not so you can relax.
Not so you can have fun.
But – so you will be human,
So you will recognize beauty,
So you will be sensitive,
So you will be closer to an infinite beyond this world,
So you will have something to cling to,
So you will have more compassion, more gentleness, more goodness, in short –
more life.
Of what value will it be to make a prosperous living unless you know how to
live?
