When will my child come to Quest this year?

Fifth and sixth grade Quest students will be scheduled in two 
Quest classes per week instead of computer lab and study hall.

How will my child be graded for Quest this year?

A Quest grade will be awarded each six weeks based upon 
performance rubrics that evaluate organization, participation, 
work completion, quality of work and special projects.

Will my child have any Quest homework this year?

Students will be asked to work individually and in groups on 
assignments or projects, the majority of which will be done 
during Quest class time. However some of this work will need to 
be completed at home.

What will my child study in Quest this year?

Both fifth and sixth graders will participate in a variety of 
interdisciplinary problem-solving units featuring science and 
social studies during the year. Each of these units has 
been specially designed to enhance students critical and creative 
thinking skills.

What is Quest?

Quest is the gifted and talented program in the Carroll 
Independent School District in Southlake, Texas.

How will my child learn in Quest this year?

Most of the Quest curriculum has been designed to allow 
experiential learning. Students will engage in class discussions 
on selected readings and self-directed activities that include 
independent research, group and individual projects, science labs 
and Socratic discussion.

How will you stay in touch with me about Quest?

Please email Mrs. Hoag at the link on this website to be added to 
the DIS Quest parents' email list, then look for occasional 
emails. Also watch this website for announcements and other new 
information.

How can parents be involved with Quest this year?

Quest parents may be occasionally asked to volunteer to assist 
with special activities (please watch the volunteer page on this 
website for specifics), to be field trip chaperones, and to 
attend some special Quest events that occur during the year. You 
can also donate to the program (please see the wish list page on 
this website).

What if my child would prefer computer lab or study hall to Quest classes this year?

Quest students have the option to furlough for up to one year 
(and in some cases two) if the currently offered Quest curriculum 
does not appear to meet their needs. Furlough request paperwork 
may be requested from the Quest teacher or school counselor.

Will there be Quest field trips this year and how much will they cost?

Fifth grade Quest will travel to the Austin area on a one-day 
field trip entitled "Water Rocks" during the Fall; the cost will 
be $89 per person for both students and chaperones. Sixth grade 
Quest will travel to the NASA Houston Space Center during the 
Spring; the cost will be approximately $70 per person for both 
students and chaperones.
