Born and raised in Texas, I returned several years ago to my home state
after living for almost a decade in the San Francisco Bay Area of
California. I am married to Mr. Stephen Hoag, who is a DIS science and math
teacher. We have a son, Aaron, and daughter, Sydney, and two baby
grandaughters named Lily and Kaylee. (Ask me to see their pictures sometime;
I will happily show them to you!) Now that Aaron and Sydney are grown, Mr.
Hoag's and my two "children" are Bichon Frises, Michael and Richie.
Before teaching, I had a career in advertising and public relations
management with high-tech companies--which is why I lived in what is known
as "Silicon Valley" California. Some of the companies I worked for included
Hitachi, Nortel, Sage Software and EDS.
Since becoming a teacher, I have taught science, language arts, social
studies and study skills to students in first grade through seventh grade. I
love that I am getting to teach all these things combined together to fifth
and sixth graders now in Quest science and humanities.
My education includes graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of
Texas with an Interdisciplinary Studies B.A. in Change Management, and
60+ hours of graduate-level teacher and science training at California State
University and other colleges. Additionally, I am half-way through the
completion of an Education Psychology M.S. in Talented and Gifted Education
at the University of North Texas. I hold California and Texas multiple
subject, science and GT teaching certificates.
