Problem Solving Competitions

If you like to be part of a team that solves problems, you may be interested 
in problem solving competitions. Below is information on some problem 
solving programs:

 
Odyssey of the Mind

What is Odyssey of the Mind?

It is an international educational program that provides creative problem-
solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Kids 
apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical 
devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They 
then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World 
level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other 
countries participate in the program.

Future Problem Solving

What is Future Problem Solving?

The Future Problem Solving Program International (FPSPI) engages students in 
creative problem solving. Founded by creativity pioneer, Dr. E. Paul 
Torrance, FPSPI stimulates critical and creative thinking skills and 
encourages students to develop a vision for the future. FPSPI features 
curricular and co-curricular competitive, as well as non-competitive, 
activities in creative problem solving. the Future Problem Solving Program 
International involves over 250,000 students annually from Australia, 
Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Russia, and the United 
States.

Destination Imagination

What is Destination ImagiNation?

Destination ImagiNation is a place where kids take what they know and what 
they are good at and learn to apply it to solve challenges, working together 
and cooperatively with a team and pushing the limits of imagination to best 
not their competition, but themselves.

Teams of five to seven members work together to apply creativity, critical 
thinking and their particular talents to solve a Team Challenge.
