5th Grade Art Club About Art Club Any fifth grade student at DIS may join the art club. Interested students must have a 70% or better in all core classes and citizenship of “S” or “E” in all classes. If a student misses more than 3 meeting this year (without an note), he/she will have to talk with Mrs. Trammell and may not be able to continue as a member of art club. Please do not miss meetings if at all possible! Tutoring is an excused absence from art club, and takes precedence over art club, but you must give Mrs. Trammell a note. If a student in scheduled for TAKS Tutoring, they are not allowed to attend Art Club during their scheduled tutoring times. Do you need to be “good” at art? No! If you are …great! All you need to have is a desire to make and learn about art. Art club will have different projects throughout the year that will help add art around DIS, as well as strengthen the skills and creativity of the art club members. Fifth graders will meet on Thursday mornings. We will begin at 7:45 so please be on time! There will be two groups. If your homeroom class comes to art Week I you will have art club that same week. If your homeroom class comes to art on Week II that will be the week you attend. I under-stand that some 5th grade students are in Student Council, which also meets on Thursdays before school and those 5th grade student council members could join the Artist Trading Card Club which meets every other Monday from 3:40-4:45 (see ATC flyer). There is a $5.00 fee to be in art club, to cover the cost of materials. If there is a concern about the fee please contact Mrs. Trammell and please do not let this fee keep an interested student out of art club. Sign Ups and Meetings If you are interested in joining art club please bring the permission slip and $5 to the Art room, G101 no later than Wednesday, September30, 2009. Artist Trading Card Club Artist Trading Cards (or ATCs) are a new, fun, and creative way to make art! ATCs are miniature works of art about the same size as modern baseball cards, or 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches, small enough to fit inside standard card-collector pockets, sleeves or sheets. The ATC movement developed out of the mail art movement and has its origins in Switzerland. Cards are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens, markers, etc), wet media (watercolor, acrylic paints, etc), paper media (in the form of collage, papercuts, found objects, etc). The cards are usually traded or exchanged rather than sold. Our club will learn to make lots of cards in many mediums! Sign Ups and Meetings Any student at DIS may join the ATC club, but the club is limited to the first 25 students. Interested students must have a 70% or better in all core classes and citizenship of “S” or “E” in all classes.
