Tuesday 12/1: Dear Parents, I will be attending the annual Scholastic Warehouse Sale (for educators and librarians only) to purchase books for my classroom library, which is mainly composed of used "hand-me-downs" from other teachers. These Scholastic books will be sold at a significant discount for teachers, from 40 – 80% off the cover price, so money will go very far. These purchases will be made out-of-pocket and are intended to enrich the reading selection for every student and to provide additional material to support classroom studies and projects. Although Fern Bluff is currently having its own book fair, I would prefer donations for the warehouse sale. I will be shopping for books in the following categories: -Historical Fiction -Social Studies/History -High Interest Fiction (Bluebonnet, Newbury Award Winners, etc.) -Graphic Novels -Student Reference Books (Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, etc.) -Science -Math If you would like to donate funds towards this purchase, please send a check, of any amount, payable to Scholastic, to school this week with your child, anytime before Tuesday Dec. 8th. Thank you for your continued support, Patrick ------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday 11/3: *** Report cards went home today! *** Please sign and return the teacher copy in the envelope provided. Thanks! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday 10/29: I've just set up and started building my own class Wiki. When its finished, I'll post the link, as well as student login info, so stayed tuned! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday 10/22: *** Reminder *** We'll be taking a field trip tomorrow to the Gem and Mineral show tomorrow. The buses will be leaving FBE at approx. 9:00, and we'll be back at school around 2:00. Students should dress appropriately for the weather tomorrow, bring a sack lunch w/drink, and no more than $5 to buy rocks, crystals, etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday 10/19: *** Important Updates *** 1. An letter regarding details about this Friday's field trip will be going home today, including info about being a chaperone. We would like to have 5 parent chaperones per class. You'll have to provide your own transportation (carpooling is OK), and the cost of admission to the Gem and Mineral show have been paid for! However, you'll have to pay for the Imax movie at the Bob Bullock Museum. If you chaperone and you would like to take your child home with you directly after the movie, please sign and return the form to me by this Wed. 10/21 so I can get that approved by Dr. Wilson by Friday. 2. I've added a Photos/Docs page to the website, that will contain...photos and documents(how original!) that we've discussed in class, from all subject areas. Right now, there is a PowerPoint presentation covering divisibility rules that we discussed today and have HW over tonight. 3. I've also added a Discovery Education Videos page. We occassionaly takes notes from or discuss streamed movies from Discovery, so I've added the ability for parent/students to view at home. This will be helpful if a student is absent or needs to update their notes. To access the movie simple click the appropriate link. It will take you the Discovery Education website and fill out an access code. The only thing that needs to be entered is the student's name, then click the "go" button. On the next screen, just click the link with the name of the movie and it will open a new window with the movie, and then press the play button. You can pause, stop, rewind, etc. as needed. 4. Just a reminder: I tell my students several times at day that any homework that is listed on the student planner, finished or not, needs to go into the Homework section of their accordian file. I have students do this so parents/guardians can check for completion and/or quality, see what we're up to, etc. Also, periodically check the Home Access Center to stay up-to-date on your child's progress. It will show what's been graded and turned in so far, including missing/late work. If you have any problems loggin in, or have questions about it, contact Barabara Ewing, the school registrar. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday 10/13: *** I'll have a substitute teacher for the next two days while I attend a really cool math releated seminar. Feel free to email me while I'm away if you need to contact me. *** - Permission slips went home today for a 5th grade field trip taking place next Fri. 10/23.
