Red ribbon week was great!. It was a treat to see the kids with their hats, funky hair, silly socks, and school pride.
We completed The Legend of Sleepy Hollow this week. The kids made a case file and complied time and place, evidence, suspects, and clues to solve their version of what happen to Ichabod Crane. Today the students watched the Disney version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I enjoyed hearing them make comparisons to the book as they watched the movie. It is great to see them making those connections.
We have had multiplication madness in math. The students were introduced to songs, rhymes, and strategies to help them with their facts. We have been taking our daily one minute quiz as well, so keep practicing those facts at home. However....today it completely slipped my mine!! No one said anything either till we were leaving out the door this afternoon. We had a couple of off schedule things today, watching the movie and having a Red Ribbon lesson in the cafeteria this afternoon. Anyway, we will take our 4 quiz on Monday morning. Please go ahead and study the 6's also, coninuting to go up.
During writing the students worked to complete a composition about Sea World or field day. I can't wait to read them! They also worked on writing a mystery using their knowledge of a mystery from studying and reading Sleepy Hollow.
Science this week has been all about the planets of the solar system. The students learned the order of the planets and researched other facts about the planets as well. We will continue with the solar system next week.
We are beginning The Tale of Despereaux on Monday. It's a great story/book, much better than the movie. The kids will learn that there are many differences between the two and I think they will agree that the book is better. I will be reading to the class, but if you would like to purchase a copy for your child to follow along in, please do.
