Next PROBE due December 17. Each student has selected a state to report on. These are the rules for the PROBES: Students are to take notes from books, encyclopedias, magazines, and the Internet.( Wikipedia is discouraged.) Students should be encouraged to use words and phrases for these notes....not sentences copied word for word. There must be at least TWO sources of information. Only ONE source may be from the Internet. To cite sources, use the complete URL, and for books use the title, author and page numbers. For encyclopedias give the name (Ex. World Book) and the volume and page numbers. I am not concerned about formal citations. I DO want the children to understand that when one researches and reports on a topic, one must tell where the information was obtained. The report will be presented on two pages (copy paper), each of which will be glued into the PROBES booklet after they are completed. This will ensure that a neat page is submitted. The page on the left will have a graphic that adds meaningful information to the report. For example, a chart, a map, a graph, a diagram, or a portrait. Children may show multiple graphics as long as they fit on the top 3/4 of the page. The bottom 1/4 is reserved for the references. The graphics may not be printed from the Internet. They must be hand drawn by the student. The page on the right will have a one inch symbolic border colored beautifully. A symbolic border is one which relates to the topic of the report. For example: A report on Jim Bowie of the Alamo might have the Bowie knife around the border. Or, a report on the Transcontinental Railroad might have train tracks as the border. Inside the border will be the report....handwritten, not typed. Students may use manuscript or cursive. There must be a title. Paragraphs must be indented and proper spelling and punctuation are expected. The report must fit on the front of one sheet of paper. All coloring must be with crayons or colored pencils. NO markers!!
Or, would you like to view and optionally restore one of these previous versions?
