Hello again,
So far this month we have been busy little bees again.
Ms. Martin is doing a great job. She is now in the "total teach" portion of
her student teaching responsibilities. I am in and out of the classroom
during this time but also observing and giving her feedback. Her last day
with us will be Dec. 11.
We will have a celebration for her at the end of that day.
We said good bye to our friend Devion. We wish him all the best with his
forever family in Minnesota.
Writing-We are learning to use adjectives in our writing and write "super
sentences" Please encourage your children to use these when writing their
spelling sentences.
Math- We are learning to recognize, write and order numbers on a hundreds
chart. Understanding vocabulary like, greater than, less than, equal to,
before, after and between. We have been busy building numbers with tens and
ones as we learn about place value.
Reading- We have started our readers workshop where children learn a variety
of reading for meaning topics such as choosing just right books and making
connections. Children are also given the opportunity now to independently
read silently the books they choose (with guidence) for this time.
Social Studies and Science- We finished up our seed observation booklets
where students observed seeds in the light and in the dark. Surprisingly
enough some of the seeds in the dark sprouted however we learned that the
seeds in the window were healthier. We learned about past and present and
made timelines of important events. We completed our Native American
rotation where students went to a different classroom each day to learn about
a different Native American group. Our next topic will be holidays around
the world and family traditions.
Flat Stanley continues to travel. We have had many return with pictures,
postcards and maps.
The book fair is approaching so we will not be checking out books for a
couple of weeks.
