Reminders:

Friday - “Take Pride Day” Wear your Gray Kindergarten Class Shirt!

Kindergarten will celebrate the 50th day of school on November 4th.  All students are encouraged to dress in 50's attire.  We'll do a lot of activities centered around halves (half way to the 100th day of school!) and fractions.  There will also be a Sock Hop at the end of the day for our kids.  We need a few people to help with decorations for the cafeteria as well as in the classroom, so please let me know if you are willing to help

I have sent home some more Scholastic Book Orders.  Many parents like to use the November and December book orders to do some early Christmas Shopping.  If you would like to purchase a book  as a surprise for your wonderful, let me know and I will make sure that it gets to you without him/her knowing about it.  Also, if you would like to order online, please go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs.  The username is fischerfriends and password is read.  There is an extra section that has SEVERAL other selections of catalogs that can be purchased online only.  You can find this catalog when you log onto the website.

Please remember to remind your little one to bring a jacket to school.  It may be warm outside and cool inside. (As long as it is above 40 degrees we will be going outside for recess.)  Also, we often have "lost" jackets in kindergarten.  If you could write your child’s name in the jacket that would really.

Heads up....I will not be here November 12th.  I will be at a Technology training all day.

*The PTA direct donation drive is still going on.  You can send back your donation in the labeled envelope and I will turn it in to the PTA.

*PTA Reflections contest entries are being accepted this week.

*Day Light Savings is Sun, Nov. 1st.  Don't forget to "fall" back!

*The first 9 weeks ended on Friday.  Report Cards will go home on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

*Please remember that students are NOT allowed to dress in Halloween costumes at school.  However, Halloween shirts, socks, etc. are allowed.
First, I wanted to say "THANK YOU" to all the moms, dad, and grandparents that came out to support our little Field Day Stars last Friday! What fun we had, even with a chill in the air.
Wednesday, October 21st, we will be having our vision and hearing tested by our school nurse.  If your child wears glasses, please make sure they have them with them tomorrow.  No news is good news!  Nurse Hafner will only be contacting the students that need to follow up with their doctors.
Last week your child came home with an art fundraiser packet in their blue Tuesday folders.  The art department wanted to remind you the magnet is not free.  If you are planning to keep the magnet, you need to send in $5.  If you do not wish to purchase the magnet, send the entire envelope back with the magnet inside.  I have on my calendar that this fundraiser ended today Oct.20th.

Last week PTA kicked off their direct donation drive. This will be taking the place of our usual fall fundraiser selling wrapping paper. As a parent this is the best thing every invented! Let’s just say for the last two football fundraisers I bought ten cups for one and ten discount cards for the other (anyone want to buy either one from me), then over half the money always goes back to the fundraising company.  With the direct donation drive it allows all of the money collected to directly benefit our programs that PTA helps fund for the students at Fern Bluff.  I want to encourage you to give what is comfortable for your family.  Remember, many of the area companies will match your donations!!
We will have our second fire drill tomorrow Wednesday, October 21st.  The bells are working and the fire alarm will go off this time.  It will be at 2:30pm, so we will wear our backpacks outside, we will be ready to leave right away from the porch!

We will end the week with our Rock Solid Safety program, put on by the Round Rock Fire Dept.  It is fabulous and I promise your child will come home talking and singing about fire safety!!

Red Ribbon Week is Oct. 26-30th.  Today a flyer was sent home in the blue Tuesday folder with the details of the week’s special events. FRIDAY, October 30th wear your GRAY CLASS t-shirt!!!

*Picture Day is TOMORROW (Tuesday, Sept. 29th).  All students will have their picture taken; however if you wish to purchase pictures, you must return the order form and payment tomorrow with your child.  We have to turn in orders and money when we get out pictures taken; our time is 9:00am.  If your child is sick, did not worry, there is a make up day! Please don't send a sick child to school just for pictures. We had six children out in our class alone today. There is a little bit of everything going around.

Parent Academic Night will be a little different this year.  We will do a grade level presentation in the cafeteria from 6:00-6:30 where you will learn about Kindergarten curriculum, routines, and expectations.  Following the presentation, you will be invited to our classroom for an Open House, from 6:30-7:00pm.  You will get to look at work samples, read/review your child's individual progress report (conference form), and look around the room. You may also sign up for a conference on October 12th to go over this form if you still feel one is needed.  Your kindergarten student is allowed to come to show you everything they have learned so far! However, we are asking that sibling not attend.

The T-Shirts have been ordered and should be coming soon. We are so excited to have an official kinder shirt because several other grade levels do this each year!

*Birthdays: When it is time for a birthday you are welcome to bring a store bought snack for a treat. (See Birthday section for details)

 Our Library Day is Friday!! Please make sure your child's book is in the class on Thursday or before. It is a really disappointment when they don't get to check a new book out.

The Reading Program starts this week. A "Reading Log" can be found and printed from my website (The Rewards of Reading). Each time a completed log is returned to school, a SMALL prize is give to encourage reading at home.

Star Student is under way, with Abby leading the way last week, and Alyssa starting this week. The kids LOVE this! It is a great time for them to hear about their friends, and see pictures their families. You can find out your child's week from the website (Star Student Schedule)

Reminder: T-Shirt Money is due soon!! I've only gotten half of the class. The shirts are $6.00. As a class, we could decide to wear them every couple of weeks on the same day - that would be really cute!! For sure, all of Kinder will wear their colored shirts on special days. We will definitely get our money's worth out of the $6.00! The money is due Sept. 22nd (which needs to be paid with cash).   If ordering a shirt for your child is a problem, just let me know and I will take care of it. Thanks to Mr. Young for being our class accountant.

Kinder Social

During the last PTA meeting, a kinder mom requested a way to meet other families.
Thus, we have decided to do one more Kinder Social. Please join us in Fern Bluff Park (right next to the school) on Friday, September 25th right after pick up.

Questions, e-mail Alexia Thex ajthex03@thexfamily.com

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday I have crosswalk duty. If you are standing on the porch your children will be dismissed quickly to you by me before I go to the street. After that, each child needs to say goodbye to Mrs. Thibodaux so that we can account for everyone. If your little one is going home with some else, it is VERY important that you write me a note so that I get them in the right place. (That person must also be on the release you signed in the office.)
EARLY RELEASE: Wednesday, September 16th 12:45 PM Dismissal.
 SNACK SHACK IS BACK – Thursday, September 17th immediately after school. Stop by for a yummy treat, community and friendship for just 50 cent

MATH PENTATHLON – Regular, weekly classes begin on Thursday,
September 17th after school. There are just two spots open for new students. If interested, email Jennifer Banks jmbanks@austin.rr.com

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS – Mad Science, Karate, Drama Club, and Math Pentathlon are all programs available. Be sure to notify me if your child has permission to go directly to the program after school.

Please do not put any lunch money, order forms, notes, etc. in the green, yellow or red folders because I may not check those until later in the week.  The blue Tuesday folder is the best place to return items to school, but if you need to get something to me another day, please send in an envelope that your child can hand to me.

In the Tuesday Folder:
*a very important form from the office
 This requires a signiture and needs to be returned to class.
*a Highlights note
It would really help our class get a bag of stickers if you sign and return that form!
*the first book order
For every dollar you spend on books, our classroom gets free books.

~~~If you choose to order your books online through our classroom’s account, not only is it a convenient option that is now available to parents, but with EACH ORDER the class earns one free book! Instructions attacted!! (Just a thought!)
Next Monday, September 21st, we will start our Star of the Week with Abby! Be sure to look for her poster in the hall outside of our classroom. To find out when your child is our Star, and more information about the poster that needs to be sent to school with them, check under the Star of the Week Page. Remember the best part is the class Teddy Bear will go home with the Star of the Week on Friday.
We found the Gingerbread Man today!! It was a week filled with seeing crumbs in the room, smelling “him” just around the corner, and spotting “him” running through the hallways!Thank you to Mrs. Landt for cooking some of the most delicious Gingerbread Men ever. The kids loved them!
There are lots of germs in the air right now.  Please talk with your child about washing their hands, keeping hands out of their mouths and covering their mouths when they cough.  Since we do have so many germs in kindergarten, we are asking that all snugglies your children have been bringing for rest time stay at home.
However, I would like for each child to bring a small, light weight jacket instead, with animals and blankets and pillows and whatever else it is just too much to pack what is important. . . folders. The kids are dressing for 100 degrees and when the air is on in the room, sometimes when we are sitting in group they get cool. There is just not enough room for everything, it makes the backpacks too heavy, and I figure for a 25 minute rest . . . well I think we all can do with out our little fluffy friends. We are napping with our jackets instead, incase we get cold lying down. You can also leave the change of clothes at home unless you think there might be a small chance your child might need them. They take up so much room! (But don’t tell anyone you heard that here.)
The story of our shoes. . .
found under Specials Schedule
We are being very careful in the heat. Our class is drinking water before and after recess, which is shorter. If your child would also like to bring a labeled water bottled for outside they are welcome to do that as well.
You should still discuss the lunch choices with your child at home. When we get here I read the choices, and they pick. Everyone should be able to pick what they want to eat. If you want your child to eat a certain choice, you can tell them in the morning.
The way you read the lunch menu: the first thing listed is choice #1, the second thing listed under that is choice #2, and the vegetarian choice, which is the same each week, is always choice #3.
Appropriate behavior is extremely important for learning to occur at school.  We have discussed our behavior system and how it works in our classroom.  We are learning the boundaries of Kindergarten and our classroom, so I have been giving lots of positive reinforcement, re-directs and reminders when necessary.  Starting next week, I will be expecting to see good choices in our behaviors and we will begin to use the behavior system as needed.  Everyone starts on a "green" day and if rules are broken (after reminders) they will move through the colors of the behavior system-yellow, orange, red and blue.  If your child happens to move to yellow, please do not worry as that is usually all they need in order to correct the behavior.  If your child moves to orange or beyond, I will write in their red folder and send it home that day.  Please review and send the red folder back the following day.  I will contact you if we have any recurring behavior concerns.  Thank you for your support at home with behavior so our children know we are all working together to help them learn as much as possible.
I hope that clears some details up . . .
If you have anything else I’m here,
Cyndi
**For your convenience, Fern Bluff now has an option to report your child's absence online.  If your child is absent, please go to the Fern Bluff website, and click on Parent Resources.  It will take you to another pull down window where you can choose, "Report an Absence Online."  Filling out the information online will eliminate the notification to the office and the note explaining the child's absence upon returning to school.
Please click the "add e-mail" button at
the bottom of
this page if you would like to
receive an e-mail each
time I update my
web page, usually once a month.
