Happy Thanksgiving! Have a safe & restful holiday!
Math - We will begin a unit on mean, median, mode & range. We will have a
quiz on Thursday, December 3rd. 5 square is daily homework. The students
must attempt to do each problem and come up with some answer in order to
receive full credit.
Science - Whew! We have completed our unit on Life Science. We will begin a
Earth Science unit. The students always enjoy Earth Science because we will
conduct many experiments and some involve food. The students are never
required to eat the foods. It is optional. We will continue Earth Science
with slow changes to the Earth and then move into Quick Changes. We will be
conducing many labs during the next few weeks. Ask your child what they are
learning to help enforce it at home.
Please have your child go through 25-30 multiplication flash cards each
day for homework. We will continue to have random quizes. If the students
perform poorly, they may correct their quizes and bring their grade up to
a "70".
LATE POLICY: Our 5th grade policy this year has been to deduct 10 points
when an assignment is turned in late. In order to prepare the 5th graders
for Middle School, this will change after Christmas. Our new policy will be
the same policy that the Middle Schools enforce. We will start deducting 30
points for any late assignment. Please talk with your child about this and
encourage them to get organized so that they complete each assignment & turn
it in on time.
ATTENDANCE:
This year Fern Bluff will no longer be giving "Perfect Attendance" awards.
This has been a request from the Communicable Disease Control office. We
want students who are ill and have had a fever the day before to remain at
home and get well. Each student must be free of fever for a full 24 hours
before they return to school. The CDC feels that perfect attendance awards
encourage students to return or attend school when they were still possibly
contagious. Thanks for your understanding!
5th graders will report to Cafeteria each morning.
We have PE on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Please make sure that your
child wears tennis shoes on these days! Thanks!
