Homework

Week of March 9 - 13th

Homework this week has math with 2 word problems, a rainforest comprehension
passage as well as a reading comprehension passage. They must continue to
read nightly. We have put in orders for new trackers as they are coming to
the end.

Week of March 2nd - 6th

Homework this week consists of a comprehension passage to read and answer
questions on. In math i have sent home two separate CGI math problem
worksheets. One has the steps on solving stragies that needs to be followed
when doing word problems. They also need to continue to chart the phases of
the moon nightly. Some folders may have additional work that was not
completed or needs to be corrected and returned.

Week of February 16 - 29th

Homework this week consists of beginning a month long assignment of nightly
moon observation and recording. I have sent home a sheet explaining the
requirements in their tracker. They also have a Weekly-Reader assignment on
Space and Moon facts with a question sheet attached. I have told the class
that I expect good quality work, spelling checks and grammar checks before
they turn it in. If I believe it to be less than their best they have been
warned that it will be returned to be redone. As we are grouping for
addition I have not sent home a math assignment but have added some web sites
on the web page that children can access and play games on - they deal with
addition and i believe they will be beneficial to the children. The kids
also know how to log into the Envision text book programme and should use
that site.

Week of February 9 - 13th
The homework this week consists of a math fraction activity to be done with
the box of heart shaped candy that is coming home in their valentine boxes
today. They also have a reading comprehension package to complete. Please
continue with daily reading, journaling and math practice as it helps to
increase accuracy, fluency and penmanship! Thanks for all you do at home, it
is much appreciated!
Week of January 26th - 30th

The homework for this week continues to be reading 100 mins, completing the
related activity in the reading tracker. For math I have sent home basic
math practice as well as a worksheet for fractions. There is a timeline
activity with a rubric and a note to explain what needs to be completed for
MONDAY, February 2nd. Please make sure that your child is reading, writing
and practicing their math on a daily basis.

Week of January 19th - 23rd

The children have social studies homework which entails timelines in
conjunction with writing a story. For math they have some fraction review
problems. They need to be reading 100 mins a week and working in their
tracker. In addition to this please have them work on the math review
packet, a few problems every night will keep them practicing which will
improve their accuracy and speed. Reading every night with your child is a
wonderful way to meet their reading requirements.

Week of Dec. 8 -12

The children worked REALLY REALLY hard all week and so i wanted them to
enjoy some down time - there is no homework this week other than reading
every night! Enjoy curling up with a good book and your child and foster
the love of reading!

Week of Dec. 1 - 5

Homework coming home this week will focus on circular stories, which is what
we have been working on in class. I will also be sending home some review
on grammar and social studies.

Week of Nov. 17 - Nov. 21st

As we have a short week next week I have sent home only language arts and
social studies homework. We learned when to use "a" and "an" in sentences.
Also we learned about facts and opinions. For social studies there is a
sheet that requires following directions and answering questions, both good
skills to develop. I told the children that if they finished their homework
up over the weekend then they would not have anything but reading to do over
the Thanksgiving holidays! they seemed to like that idea!!! So if their
homework is completed they may bring their folders in on Monday and i will
have them checked off. The summary trackers are not being assigned but I am
asking everyone to continue reading every night through the holidays.
Thanks for all your help!

Week of Nov. 3rd - Nov. 7th

I sent homework for math which entails reviewing place value. I also sent
home reading summary trackers so we can get back on track with that. I have
made notes on the summaries so that it can serve as a reminder as to the
components that need to be in the summary. For Language Arts there is an
activity on "Main Idea". Please ensure that your child is reading regularly
every night by enjoying a good book with them.

Week of Oct. 20th - Oct. 24th

I am sending home graphing homework for math. We learned about graphs,
their purpose and how to read them. On language arts I am sending home an
activity which puts an emphasis on organization in writing. Hopefully this
will allow them to think about how to organise their thoughts when it comes
to writing their stories in their journals. Please continue to read
every night, work on writing and math at home. Learning can be fun and
concepts can be taught through games and activities. I am not sending their
reading/summary tracker home this week. I told the children that they will
not be required to do a summary this week but their reading has to
continue. I appreciate your help in fostering an environment conducive to
learning at home.

Week of Oct. 13th - Oct. 17th

We have been studying the concept of Sound and sound waves in Science this
week. I am sending home a review sheet for homework. I am also sending
math homework. We worked on learning how to count by making tens first and
then adding the remainder. Please review this with your child. Thanks! I
appreciate all your help, it makes all the difference in your child's
progress at school. Reading summary trackers are coming home again today.
Please make sure your child reads every night. There were some questions as
to when things are due back in class so i am listing them below.

Tuesday: Tuesday folders go home and are to be returned the next day.

Friday: Homework folders and reading/summary trackers go home today and are
to be returned by Thursday of the following week. Behaviour folders go home
today (they are to be initialed)and returned to school on Monday.

Week of Sept 29th - Oct 3rd

Our homework this week is a continuation on grammar work with nouns, verbs
and punctuation. I have also included a review on math doubles concepts
which we worked on during this week. In science we looked at the concepts
of Force - push and pull and the various factors which affect Force. I
reviewed in detail as to the expectations for the summary of their reading.
The RED Homework Tracker, which is for reading summaries, is sent home on
Friday and returned to school on Thursday morning. There is to be a total
of 105 mins of reading time per week. The children write a summary either
on a book they have completed or a chapter of a book they are currently
reading. Parents are to initial each set of 15 or more minutes of reading
everyday. I have also included a sample sheet of which components they are
to include in their summary. Please have your child explain the process to
you! Have a wonderful weekend!

Week of Sept 18 - 22nd

Our homework this week has math, grammar, and science. Our math is a review
of greater than and less than, base ten concepts and word problems. Some of
us are still struggling a little and i wanted to make sure that everyone
understands these basics before moving on. We did a couple of science
experiments this week on discovering concepts of mixing, reversible and
irreversible as it pertains to matter. There is a homework practice on
these terms. For grammar, there are two sheets that look the same but have
different instructions at the top. I emphasised to the class as to the
importance of reading the requirements on each of these sheets prior to do
doing them. Please help me to acquire a correct assessment of your child's
level of understanding by allowing them to do their homework on their own, i
have told them they may ask for help in understanding the instructions but
they are to do it themself. Thanks so much for your assistance. Have a
wonderful weekend!

Week of Sept 15 - 19th

Our homework this week has a verb activity and a math review sheet. We
worked on reviewing Nouns and introduced Verbs in Grammar. We also did alot
of practice on standard and expanded forms for numbers. As some of us were
struggling with this I decided that it would be prudent to send home some
extra practice. Thanks for all your help in bridging the learning between
home and school. Have a wonderful weekend!

Week of Sept 8 - 12th

Our homework this week has Language Arts, Science and Math. It will be due
back at the latest by Thursday of next week. We discussed Nouns this week
for our Grammar lesson. Please have your child give you examples of nouns
as they do their homework. For Science i have sent home a
information/question sheet on hurricanes. The kids were all buzzing with
information and excitement so i felt it would be appropriate for them to
apply this as it is relevant to their lives right now. For math they are
reviewing their place value concepts. Thanks for all your help in making
the transition between home and school a smooth one!
