About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
First of all, I am beyond excited to be teaching this year at Fern Bluff Elementary, especially on the Fourth Grade Team. This past year I student taught in Mrs. Strmiska’s fourth grade class, and I loved every minute of it! I have been blessed with the opportunity to begin my teaching career where I learned so much. I grew up in The Woodlands, Texas, which is about thirty minutes north of Houston. I am the youngest of three girls, and my family is an extremely important part of my life. This past year, my sweet nephew, Luke, was born to my middle sister and her husband, Michael. However, the newest addition to our family came this summer when I added a puppy named Lily to the mix. Growing up, I knew I was going to be a teacher. My mom says the endless hours I spent playing “school” instead of “house” were a dead give-away. However, years later, I surprised everyone with my decision to begin my college career at The University of Texas as a Human Biology-Premed major. I soon realized that was NOT for me! In just a year and a half, I managed to change my major three times! It was as I searched for my “perfect fit” that I realized the magnitude of the passion I have for children and the way they learn. My dad always said, “If you follow your passion, you’ll never work a day in your life.” I cannot wait to begin my career as a teacher! When I’m not thinking about or preparing for teaching, I love spending time with my family and close friends, baking, taking pictures, dancing, and of course reading! Upon moving to Austin, I also discovered a love for running and biking. I could not be happier or more excited to begin teaching your children, and I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us!

Mission
Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had the habit of walking along the beach before he began his work. One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, so he began to walk faster to catch up. As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man and that what he was doing wasn't dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects and very gently throwing them into the ocean. As he got closer he called out, "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?" The young man paused, looked up, and replied, "Throwing Starfish into the ocean." "I must ask then, why are you throwing Starfish into the ocean?" To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die." Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and Starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!" The young man listened politely, then bent down, picked up another Starfish and threw it into the ocean, past the breaking waves. As it met the water, he said, "It made a difference for that one."
