   Dear Parents,
This week we had fun exploring systems in science. We studied dumptrucks and
talked about the parts that make up trucks. The kids had to work in a group
to decide if the truck could work with their chosen part missing. The next
day, we explored the plant "system". I drew a giant flower on the board with
the roots, leaves, stem...Then I kept erasing parts of the plant. They kept
saying, "NO NO Not the Stem! It supports the entire plant! It will fall!"
So I found out that they know a lot about the different parts of the plant.
They learned that the plant really needs all of it's parts to be a plant!
Every part helps the plant to function.

We are working hard on learning to count money in math. Please encourage the
kids to practice this important skill at home as well. They can count little
piles of coins including half dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies.
Once they master this, they can learn to make change and play store.

We will be exploring Indians and Pilgrims this month as we anticipate our big
Thanksgiving show which will include songs and a play! We picked our parts
for the play today so the kids are very excited. More details to come
later.

I look forward to seeing most of you at the Austin Zoo on Wednesday, Nov.
18th. The bus pulls out from Fern Bluff at around 9:15 if you are meeting us
there.

Have a fun weekend!
