What a fun week we had together!!! The kids were so cute at the musical performance on Monday! The 3rd grade drama play on Wednesday was hilarious (and led by our very own Camden's mom!!!) To top it off, we had a wonderful Polar Express Day today. Miss Weaver even came to visit for a little while! Thank you for taking the time to have your child decorate the baseball caps for me! I was very surprised, and they are a nice touch to our classroom. Thank you too for the many other gifts you gave today, but most importantly thank you for sharing your children with me this semester and working with me to help them reach their goals. I am going to get some much needed rest these 2 weeks (and I hope you will too!) We'll start the new year off ready to work harder and play harder! Happy Holidays! See you in 2010! (January 5)
Homework for winter break: We've made a lot of progress this semester, but there is still a lot of work to do. Read, read, read as much as possible and fill up those reading logs to earn prizes after the break! Logs can be printed from my Learning Links page. If you would like to check out a reading textbook from me for your child to read over the break, just let me know.
Review spelling words from the first semester on spellingcity.com (also on my Learning Links page).
Memorize doubles facts up to 9+9 and combinations for ten such as 1+9, 2+8 etc. I will send students' doubles flash cards home next week. Your child should have brought doubles flash cards home on Monday. I would suggest making flash cards for the tens facts as well.
Any way that you can help teach your child organization and friendship skills is also greatly appreciated. Many of us have work to be done in these very important subjects as well!
I also added a blog page to my website! Let me know what fun things you are doing this winter break!
See you Tuesday, January 5th!
Our learning:
This week we...
*used adjectives in our writing about Snow Day,
*finished studying holiday traditions,
*reviewed many geography skills by "traveling the world" as we learned about traditions and saw where several of our Flat Stanley's have been,
*practiced our doubles facts and used them to solve doubles plus one (8+9). Please help your child memorize doubles up to 9+9 at home.
Next week we will...
*finish a special holiday story,
*learn to use doubles and combinations for ten as strategies for adding 3 numbers; problem solve,
*celebrate fantastic first semester!
