This year the entire Fern Bluff campus will continue the POSITIVE behavior plan called QRR. QRR stands for Quality, Respect, and Responsibility. These are three traits that we expect all students to exhibit in order to maintain a safe and positive school environment in which all students have the opportunity to achieve at their highest potential. Each month the counselor will either elaborate on one of these three traits or teach a new character trait to our school. The first several weeks of school we will be learning what Quality, Respect, and Responsibility look like and sound like in our classroom, the library, the hallways, the cafeteria, and yes, even in the bathrooms. Through discussing and role playing poor choices and GREAT choices, we will lay a solid foundation for a FANTASTIC year of learning and FUN! Once we as a class decide what Quality, Respect, and Responsibility will look like and sound like in our classroom this year we will share our behavior goals with you so that you can help us achieve them all! Once the foundation is set, students who are "caught being good" and following the QRR expectations or displaying one of the positive character traits may be rewarded with a QRR certificate that they will get to bring home and share with you THAT day! HOW EXCITING! Our class will also work together to "catch" 25 class compliments in our mitt so that we can select a class reward such as lunch in the classroom, an extra recess, or show and tell day. Sometimes it is necessary for there to be consequences for poor choices. Each student will begin with excellent GREEN behavior EVERY day and will be given one verbal warning for poor choices. If a student is warned a second time for the same behavior and asked to think about the choices they are making, they will be given a YELLOW piece of paper describing their behavior that I will ask you to sign and return. Once a student has yellow behavior, continued poor choices that day will result in the student receiving a RED piece of paper and having to sit out 5 minutes of recess. The parent should be contacted by phone or email at this point to discuss possible interventions to avoid BLUE which is an office referral. Of course some extremely unsafe or disrespectul behaviors may result in an automatic office referral. You can find this information in the student/teacher handbook. I fully expect to have an awesome year with minimal behavior concerns. If you have any questions or concerns about my policy or your child's behavior, please feel free to contact me. Let's have a great year!
