It is beneficial to practice word family words (and 1st grade sight words) in addition to completing the spelling homework. Find a way to practice that motivates your child and matches their learning style. See the ideas below to get started! FUN WAYS TO PRACTICE SPELLING (in addition to the written homework) *Sidewalk Chalk *Jumping rope while spelling *Rainbow writing with several crayons or markers *Quizzing a sibling or parent and having them quiz YOU back *Writing in shaving cream *Scrambling the letters on small pieces of paper and putting them back together *Word searches (there are many tools online to create these) *www.spellingcity.com (can be accessed from my Learning Links page) Bobcat words are bonus words usually connected to content we are studying. Week 11: th, sh, ch, and wh words Week 10: note, vote, drove, nose, joke, cute, mute, cube, mule, rule Bobcat words: odd, even, past, present Week 9: final silent e words (ex. make, game) Bobcat words: after, before, next, finally Week 8: clap, club, class, sled, slip, slow, flag, flat, plan, plus Bobcat words: pumpkin, seed, orange, soil Week 7: ill family Bobcat words: they, here, there, their Week 6: hog, dog, frog, log, fog, fun, sun, run, cut, but Bobcat words: work, school, career, student's last name Week 5: when, then, ten, men, hen, went, tent, sent, bent, very Bobcat words: Texas, city, country, map Week 4: short e words...I don't have my list because I'm at home examples: let, set, bed, pet Bobcat words: October, add, noun, verb Week 3: top, stop, shop, off, fox, box, got, not, hot, on Bobcat words: autumn, bones, heart, blood Week 2: it, sit, pit, fit, in, win, pin, wig, dig, pig Bobcat words: smell, taste, hear, feel Week 1: that, sat, flat, had, mad, sad, glad, man, an, can Bobcat words: family, friend, September, rules
