Dear Parents,
So sorry it has been a while since I sent you a Newsflash about what is going on in our classroom.
Thank you to all of you for the gifts, delicious pie, and warm messages on Thanksgiving. I had a wonderful time with my family. I hope your holiday was great too.
This week we continue to work on Cause and Effect in reading. We also started an Author study on Laura Joffe Numeroff (If You Give a Mouse a Cookie). We discussed how the author creates a circular story, it always comes back to where it started. Now the kiddos are writing a circular story of their own. They have come up with some clever ideas.
In math we are still working on Time. They should know how to tell time in 5 minute increments and elapsed time.
In Social Studies we are working on our Government Unit.
They are learning about the levels and branches of government. We also had an election for class president. The kids that ran for the office had to write speeches and answer questions from the class. Our class president for this quarter is Nicole, and her vice president is Fernando. We will have another election in February for a new president.
Thanks to all the parents that have sent in pictures for the “secret” project. If you have not sent in pictures yet please do so ASAP. Thanks. We are also writing holiday cards for the Troops. Celia, in our class, has a brother in the Army and she asked the class if they could make cards for the troops in his platoon. The kids were very excited and designed some awesome cards.
Spelling words went home today in BEAR. This week we will be learning about the Bossy R and how it changes the vowels sound.
