**December is always so full of holiday fun. We started out the month with our study of Christmas Around the World. Each day we visit a new country and learn about their holiday traditions. We are doing a classroom rotation so each day they get to sit at the feet of a new kinder teacher. They are having a great time. We started out with Christmas and yesterday they learned about Chinese New Year. Today they had a chance to hear Ms. Moloo talk about Diwali. Over the next few days we will learn about La Posada, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and we will even make a gift for our neighbors, the residents at the Park Valley Retirement Center.
*When we complete these activities it will be time for our Field Trip. Thank you for sending back the permission slips so quickly. If you haven't had a chance to sign the form, please send it back as soon as you can. Although there is no room in the Theatre for extra guests, we would love for you to join us at the park.
*The weather is getting colder and we will be going outside for recess. So be sure to send your children to school with a coat, gloves and a hat if needed. If it is raining we will stay inside but if it is dry we will try to go outside. We will not go outside if the temperature is below 40.
**Dates:
Scholastic Bookfair in the library, December 1st-3rd. There will be an early release day on December 9, with dismissal at 12:45. On December 10, Kindergarten will go on a field trip to the Zachary Scott Theater. Kindergarten Holiday Performance - December 14, 6:30 p.m. And finally, we will have our winter holiday party on Friday, December 18 @11:15. Our winter break will run from Dec.19-Jan 4. There will be more information come home in the Tuesday folder about all of these events, but I wanted you to be able to get them on the calendar. It doesn't look like we will even be able to take a breath.
*The Library Reading Program is off and running. Remember to document when you read with your child in 15 minute increments. When you've completed a form, send it in. We visit the reading wall every Tuesday to move our paw prints. You can print forms off our website and the library website.
*Workroom Helpers: Denise Pischinger and Dede Hollander have volunteered to help in the workroom on Mondays. This is a great service for the Kindergarten teachers. If you have time to come to school on Monday's at 8:00 to help them I know they would appreciate it. I think I am over loading them.
*Library: We will go to the library every Tuesday at 8:30. Please return your library books on the following Tuesday so your child can check out a new book. Checking out books is such a highlight of the week, we wouldn't want anyone to miss it.
*Snack: Our snack time is at 2:00 everyday. The time is usually pretty short because the
children are anxious to get to free choice. Please be mindful of this as you pack your child's
snack. One snack during snack time will get us to the end of the day. Also, water is always
available to students at the water fountain in our classroom. Please do not send drinks for
snack time. Thank you!
*Birthdays: When it is time for a birthday you are welcome to bring a store bought snack for a
treat. (See Birthday section for details)We have a class birthday take home bag that each child
will bring home on the week of their birthday. There are some fun books and activities for your
child to do. There is also a birthday treat in the bag for your child to keep but the rest of
the bag needs to be returned to school for the other children to enjoy. We will be circulating
several take home bags this year. So far we have one for birthdays, the star student and when we
loose a tooth.
*Star Student: Our Star Student assignments will begin on Sept 14th. A schedule will come home in the Tuesday folder. After you child presents their Star Student poster on Monday they will bring home the star student bag. It is filled with fun books to read and a special treat for them to remember their week as star student. Please send the bag back on Friday of their week. They can keep the treat at home. On Friday, the star student will be allowed to take home the class pet. The pet will spend the weekend with each star student and come back to report of his adventures with his classmates. Next week we will vote on a name for our class pet. I’m sure they will tell you all about it.
*Book Orders: I will be sending home book orders on a monthly basis. You can send back the paper order or you can order online. Jill Smith has volunteered to take care of the book orders for our class this year. Be looking for the forms in the Tuesday folder.
**Dismissal Procedures: All Kindergarteners (except daycare and YMCA students)
will be dismissed from the front porch. Students will exit the building with
their teachers and will sit in a line in the teacher's assigned place.
Please do not take your child out of line while we are walking down the hall
or coming out the doors. We will happily and safely dismiss your child to you
once we are in our assigned spot on the porch. If you are picking your child up
in the car pool line, please note that our new policy is that no students may be
placed into parents' cars until 2:50. This is to give time for walkers and bikers
to exit the driveway area before cars began to move. This is strictly a safety policy.
So, please understand that even though I may see your car at the front of the line,
I am not allowed to assist your child into the car until 2:50.
Thanks for your help in this matter!!
Daycare students will wait for pickup at the end of the Kinder hallway
(in front of my room). Supervision will be provided.
YMCA students will be walked to the cafeteria on our way to the front porch.
