FORTHCOMING...

(Gray's LA class)
Writing- We are working on a new composition along with elements important to all writing! We continue to organize, develop word choices (vivid verbs), grammar (Run-on sentences, strong sentences), and writing elements (VOICE) that enhance writing across the curriculum. We are doing Quick Writes each day now to enhance our focus. Along with this, we've started a PROMPT brainstorming grid to keep up with our ideas! We'll be preparing and practicing our strategies for revising and editing assignments. Our Writing Rotations (within 4th grade) are scheduled for February 10-19. We rotate during LA time to review the grammar/editing/Writer's Tool Box and Camp-Write-Along is scheduled for February 22-26. (more information will be coming soon on CWA). Writing TAKS is March 3.

Spelling New spelling words are introduced each Monday and a test is given on Friday. The children will record the words in their planning agenda.  Each student will have activities due on Friday.  Using time wisely, these activities can be completed in class. Otherwise, they may require completion at home. On Fridays, they will take the test in a spelling journal. Something new...the children will begin construct sentences in place of dictation. This is to enhance sentence writing, conventions, structure, and stretching sentences with important information. Each Tuesday, the journal will come home in their Tuesday folder for you to review, sign, and return in the Tuesday folder. Activities that receive below 70% maybe completed and turned in within 2 days (Thursday) for rescoring. **(see our link to the left for spelling)

Our campus spelling bee will be January 11. Our class rep is Alex with Jon-Luc as the alternate. Congrats to both boys...it was truly a challenge!!!! Each day was a spelling work out!

Math- We are continuing in measurement. Feb 1 we begin with volume....keep asking them questions and let them help you at the grocery store...

Science- We are merging soil into our Weathering and Erosion! Don't stop checking out weathing! Check out this special link: http://www.uky.edu/AS/Geology/howell/goodies/elearning/module07swf.swf

Social Studies- thank you all! The essays were mailed Thursday. Everyone had great tales of their journeys! We continue into the Texas Revolution!

Please continue to review and initial your child's homework planner on a nightly basis (each day).

Our Learning with Music... has a page of its own now. To review fractions, area & perimeter, and division videos...the link is to your left.

We are a team...and without you... we'd have a hole. Thank you for all your gracious support, emails, encouragement, etc. All your hard work shines in their eyes and heart!
Reminder info:
Upon our return in January, we refreshed procedures and "quality" work. Here are a few things we reviewed:
*Assignments copied into agenda at the start of the day as well as updating with assignments throughout the day
*Homework is to go home and turn in by 8AM the due date (review w/parents)
*"Quality" work, what it looks like and expections (you may see work coming home for redos)
*Corrections procedures along with due dates
*Responsiblities for turning task on time; reminders are posted on board and ActiveSlate each day
   *Late work/trays for class/home assignments
*Loose papers stuffed into desk/unorganized desk
*Discipline book and recording those into agenda at the close of each day
   *Etc.

I discussed the"RECORDED PAPERS" as the children were bringing them back in... seems they liked how easy it was to see all their work at once without flipping through all the papers. Please remember to they are due back either in Tuesday folder or by Friday. I'll return them at the end of each 9 weeks for you to keep. If you perfer I recycle them, just let me know.
