Below is some information that might help you understand the first grade
report cards.
Report Card Information for the 1st Nine Weeks
• 2s-You may notice that your child received mostly 2s on his/her
report card in academic areas. Please understand that a 2 means that he/she
is making progress toward mastery. Most students need some guidance at the
beginning of the year. You may refer to the RRISD website for information
regarding mastery level expectations. Students must be exhibiting all these
skills independently and consistently to receive level 3.
• If your child received a 1 in any area on his/her report card it
means your child requires further direct guidance in addition to whole class
instruction.
• You may also notice that there are several areas blacked out or left
blank. This means that we have not yet covered the material needed to fully
assess this area.
• TPRI-This portion of the report card explains how your student
performed on the state reading assessment. Items left blank were not
assessed because students were developed on the screening OR they were not
yet developed enough to complete the task without frustration.
• Please see your child’s fall conference form for a more detailed
explanation of your child’s specific strengths and areas for growth.
