NOTE: READING INTERVENTION PARENT NIGHT FOR K-3
6:15-7:15 OCTOBER 6, 2009 Cline Library
2009 Fall Focus
Dear Parents,
We are off to a great start with targeting every child's reading goals and helping all Cline students
achieve success in literacy. At Cline, we are proactive at finding the right intervention for your child's
needs so that failure is not experienced. Cline's response to a child's intervention is measured by a tier
system. Some children may need close monitoring in their classroom as with Tier 1, some need a short
3-6 week jump start program like with KIP, while others may need Tier 2 as with SRP which are longer
term interventions. Tier 3 is provided for students who need specific intense instruction as outlined in
district and state guidelines.
If your child has recently been recommended for intervention, I have sent
home a parent permission form for your child to participate in the K.I.P.(Kindergarten
Intervention Program), S.R.P.(Supplemental Reading Program) or
Dyslexia Intervention Program. I will be happy to set up a time to conference with you
about your child's program after school M-F. I also have a conference time at 11:45-12:15 M-F.
If you have concerns about your child's progress, assessment results or feel you have important
confidential information to share about your child, please feel free to contact the
counselor, Mrs. Bowman or myself,(Mrs. Steele) by phone at #281-482-1201
ext.#304 or email me at: jsteele@fisdk12.net
I strongly encourage you to first contact your child's teacher but
feel assured, Mrs. Bowman or I will be available to help answer questions,
as well as, be a resource to helping your child in his classroom. Please
provide me time to answer your call or email since I have 8 class periods
and may have to wait until 2:35 before I can return your call/email. It may
be necessary for us to meet or talk by phone during the school year,
to discuss your child's response to classroom interventions or response to a
pulled-out (regular education) program such as KIP, SRP, or Dyslexia. At
Cline,"early intervention" and providing opportunities for parent
connections are foremost our goal for your child's reading success.
P.S. Please check out the Cline Reading Connections table in the hallway
where we are happy to share home materials, provide suggestions and
information for home practice on these specific skills which are
the "greatest predictors of reading success". Upcoming events and parent
information nights will be posted on this table and reminders sent with your
child's reading folder.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Julia C. Steele
