I have been teaching for 17 years. After graduating from Southwest Texas
State (now Texas State University), I taught in Roundrock ISD. Upon moving
to the Houston area, I taught in Cypress Fairbanks ISD, then Alief. I quit
working for 16 years to raise my three children, Lenny, a graduate from UT
Nick graduated from Texas State, and Fran, a sophomore at Texas State. My
husband, Len,
and I have lived in Friendswood for 17 years. I am blessed to be able to
guide children
each year in such a wonderful, supportive district. I have a BS in
Education with a
certification in Kindergarten.
Through a Balanced Literacy Program, I plan to guide the children through a
successful year in distinguishing letter sounds, recognition, and reading
with great enjoyment. I will teach by reading to the children, with the
children, and by the children. Success is achieved in several ways.
Enrichment extends in many areas. Pure socialization with character
building, respect, and trust will be implemented in our everyday setting.
I believe all children can learn in the truest sense of
kindergarten, "children's
garden," in their own individual space and time. I am the facilitator. It
is my job to
nurture them, to challenge them, to guide them in the skills they will need
to become
life long learners. Kindergarten is a time for children to explore their
natural curiosity
and develp their love of learning. Kindergarten is the transition from the
child's
preschool experience to the elementary school where more children, more
adults, and
more rules exist. I believe in the tenant that parents are their child's
first and most
important teacher, and that we are partners in educating their child. I
believe that I
need to model the behavior I am expecting, and praise those students who
exhibit
positive behavior. I believe I must provide an atmosphere that supports
children's
emotional, physical, and intellectual development, and I promote
independence and
critical thinking skills. I bring into consideration children's individual
strengths, cultural
backgrounds, and family lifestyles. All of these elements fit together like
pieces of a
puzzle, giving me a true picture of the child. With this picture, I can be
a better teacher.
It will be a great year. Kay Kobeski
