Happy New Year!!! It's great to be back in the swing this week.  The children have so many great stories to share about their holidays.  It sounds like they had a blast!!!!!
A big thank you to Beth Baker, Wyatt's mom, for all of our cute seasonal art projects for the holidays.  She is so creative and keeps our classroom and halls looking awesome!!!

Reading

Reading:  We are learning how to make inferences as we read.  This is a difficult skill for second graders because it requires that they think deeply about what the story is suggesting.  We are discussing how authors use context clues to explain how characters feel and act.  At this age, children are still so literal that this is a difficult skill to grasp.  Talk to your child about this as you read their home readers in the evenings.  That will help to connect home and school.  Thanks a ton!

Writing:  This week we are beginning a unit on organization of ideas and following a specific sequence in our writing.

Math
Place value using hundreds, tens and ones
Social Studies
Landforms and water forms around the earth: we are making a booklet that they will be bringing home as a study guide at the end of this week that will help in studying for the test next week.
