About The Teacher

The cozy town of Friendswood has been my home for 25 years. I am
blessed with four beautiful, precious and wonderful children and a kind,
supportive, very flexible husband. I am the grandmother of a precious
precocious little four year old named Jana Lynn (who keeps us in stitches
with her "big girl" language and innocent understanding of the world), and a
wonderful two year old sweet baby boy named Nolan who is like
a little bull dozer. I am certain there is no greater joy in this world than being
 "Nonnie"!!

Our family stays very busy with each other, with church activities, fishing,
scrapbooking, walking on the beach, and making spontaneous decisions to
do something fun. Having all my family at home is another of my greatest
joys.

My son, Chris, is a 28 year old graduate of Texas A & M where he played
the bass (tuba) for four years in the Mighty Fighting Texas A & M Band. He
and his gorgeous wife Candace (who is my dear friend and the most perfect
daughter-in-law) are successfully juggling their careers with two young babies.
The fact that they live right across the street from us is a bonus no one ever
imagined, but all of us love immensely. What could be more perfect than having
one's children and grandchildren so close?! Besides that, we have never eaten
so well as we do now that Candace and Chris are cooking!

I can not believe that my youngest child, Joey, graduated from Friendswood
High School this past May. He loves fishing more than breathing, I think! Joey
is a freshman at Alvin Community College where he is paving the way to Galveston
A & M and a degree in Maritime Transportation.

Jessie graduated from A & M College Station with her degree in animal science.
She has begun her studies toward a Master's Degree in animal behavior at the
University of Houston Clear Lake, while at the same time working at Baylor College
of Medicine as a vet technician. Jessie has always had a gift for working with and
doctoring animals. Her dream is to become a veterinarian. Now all she has to do
is raise that grade point average and get into Vet School!

Shelley, my youngest daughter, just completed her undergraduate studies at
Corpus Christi A & M earning her bachelor degree in Psychology on August 9.
Then, she married the man of her dreams (and my dream for her!!) on August 15!
You can imagine the busy, yet exciting and emotional summer we have had.
They both have such a passion for the Lord that they intend to go to seminary
as soon as they get on their feet financially. Daniel began teaching 9th grade math
in Grand Prairie (near Fort Worth and Dallas Theological Seminary) last week.
Shelley will do substitute teaching and enroll in the spring for a degree in Christian
Counseling. We are so proud of them both.
P.S. Come by to see her bridal portrait and wedding video!!

My husband and I love going to Galveston where we are able to truly relax
at our bay house. He says his blood pressure goes down 20 points just driving
into the driveway! It's been a dream of ours for many years to be on the water.
The only drawback is the incessant worry about hurricanes from June to November!
Still, we are very grateful for a truly wonderful place to regain a sense of peace.
We are especially blessed that our large family loves to be there, too.

In my spare time (what's that?!!) I love to read and work on
scrapbooking. Chronicling our large family's colorful life through
pictures and journaling is so much fun to me. Any time I can cut
and paste I am happy!!

As long as I can remember, children have loved me and have been
drawn to me (and I them!!). Playing with and teaching them was my
greatest fun as a child. Kids still make me smile, teach me about compassion
and wisdom, and give me courage to continue to pursue my mission in life:
teaching and loving children.

Mission For The Class

My goal is to use my passion for children's literature and love
of art to help me to make reading seem to children to be the privilege
and honor that it truly is. I know that happy and safe children who feel
good about themselves will learn to love learning. My mission is that my
students will learn to love reading and love learning with a passion that
lasts throughout their lives.
