Speech One: Communication Applications
Instructor: Ms. Cheryl Ryne
Purpose: To expose the student to various forms of communication theory and practice and to enrich
the student with self confidence that will carry over into all their communication experiences.
Content: Units will cover public speaking experienced through individual and group presentations,
interpersonal communication skills, communication through various forms of media and mediums,
debate and the interpretation of literature.
Grades: Daily grades will be in the form of check marks for class exercises, participation and
worksheets. Each missed check mark will result in the loss of five points on the daily average. The daily
average will count as two major grades per nine weeks. Major grades will be for assignments such as
individual and group presentations and exams.
Make Up work: It is the responsibility of each student to request and complete make up work as per the
guidelines outlined in the student handbook.
Supplies: Students will need a binder to retain all notes and worksheets. It is strongly suggested that
students keep work in chronological order to facilitate success on all exams and the semester final.
