Summer letter for Clinical and Interns

Hello 2009-2010 Clinical Rotation Students:

I realize this year has just ended and you are all looking
forward to your long, relaxing summer. I also hope you are as
excited about the coming year as I am. I just wanted to make sure
that as you go about your summer, you make plans to visit your local
physician’s office to get your TB skin test. This is a test required
by all of the hospitals and physicians offices that we do rotations
in. This test is given one day and then you must return 48-72 hours
later for it to be “read” by the office staff. Please make sure
that you get a copy of the results and save them in a place that you
will remember. You will need to give me a copy when we return to
school.

Another issue for you to consider as you make all of your
summer doctor appointments, we do rotations in and around the
Friendswood area. We are always looking for new offices to use as
rotations sites. If you think you would like to rotate in a
particular office, please explain our HOSA / Clinical Rotation
program. If it sounds like they might be interested in mentoring one
morning a week for our program, get their name, office number, an
email and a contact name and I can get them more information.

The officers are busy planning an awesome year. They would
like to be able to keep you informed the best way possible. Since
they won’t see all of you this summer and most likely do not have all
of your numbers or email, one way they can keep in touch is through
facebook. If you have a facebook, please befriend Fhs HOSA and then
find the Friendswood High School HOSA group. It is a private group,
so one of the administrators will have to approve you. You can also
follow us on Twitter.

Last but not least, all clinical rotation students are
required to compete in the HOSA area competition. The date for this
is not set yet, but once school starts, it will come fast. If you
chose to compete in a category with written test, those tests are
given the end of November or beginning of December. Therefore, the
sooner you begin, the better prepared you will be. I know that many
of you have never competed before. That is ok. I would like to you
take some time to look at the HOSA web site www.hosa.org , once
there, click on the green picture in the middle of the page,
competitive events information. Then click on the very first link,
competitive events guidelines. As you scroll down the page, you will
find all of the event names and a pdf file that explains each event
and tells you how it is judged. It will also tell you if it is an
individual or team event. If you have any questions or you decide
that you are ready to chose an event to compete in, and want to start
in the summer to study please text or call me and I will get you all
the study material that you need.

If you have any questions about contest, mentors, or the coming year
please text or call. Have a safe and happy summer. See you in
August.
