Mr. Dick is a graduate of Brazoswood High School and Sam Houston State
University. Prior to his appointment in Friendswood, Mr. Dick taught in the
Dickinson and Clear Creek School School Districts. He has been a Texas Music
Educator for 31 years.
While at teaching at Space Center Intermediate School of the Clear Creek
School District, his band was named the Class CCC Middle School State Champion
Honor Band in 1994 and 1998 and performed at the Texas Music Educators
Convention in 1995 & 1999. The Space Center Intermediate Band was one of two
Intermediate School Bands in the United States to perform at the Midwest
International Band Convention in 1999 in Chicago. In 2000, the Space Center
Band was awarded the Sudler Cup from the John Philip Sousa Foundation as one
of the two most outstanding junior high concert band programs at the
international level.
Mr. Dick arrived in Friendswood in 2000. Since then, the Friendswood High
School Band has become one of the finest 4A bands in the State of Texas. The
band has won 10 consecutive UIL Sweepstakes Awards. The Marching Band has
advanced to the 4A UIL State Marching Contest five times in a row and was the
State Runner-Up in 2003, 2005, 2009, and 4th in 2007. The Marching Band has
won many local contests and is a Bands of America Houston Regional Finalist
San Antonio Super Regional Finalist.
The Wind Ensemble has been named Best in Class at Festivals in San Antonio,
New Orleans, and Dallas and performed in New York, Los Angeles, Orlando, and
Chicago. The Wind Ensemble is a four time participant in the TMEA 4A Honor
Band competition and was named TMEA 4A State Champion Honor Band for 2006 and
2010. The Wind Ensemble performed at the 2006 and 2010 TMEA conventions in San
Antonio. The Wind Ensemble was one of seven high school bands chosen from the
US and Japan to perform at the prestigious 2006 Midwest International Band and
Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. Friendswood was the only high school
band out of all of the high schools in Texas to perform that year. The Wind
Ensemble won the National Wind Band Honors Award for outstanding performance
in 2006. Friendswood was the only high school band in Texas to be invited to
perform at the 2007 Texas Administrators Superintendents Convention in Austin.
The Friendswood High School Band has produced 95 All-State musicians in the
past 9 years.
The Friendswood High School Band was awarded the coveted Sudler Flag of Honor
by the John Philip Sousa Foundation for 2007. Friendswood High School is one
of only two bands in the US and Japan to receive this international
recognition for concert band excellence over a period of seven years. The Wind
Ensemble was awarded this recognition at the 2006 Midwest Clinic in
Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Dick was named Secondary Teacher of the Year for the Clear Creek ISD in
2000. He was awarded the Leadership and Achievement Award by the Texas Music
Educators in 1995, 1998 and 2006. In 1998, Mr. Dick was awarded the Citation
of Excellence by the National Band Association. In 2005, Mr. Dick was one of
15 educators from across Texas to win the State UIL Sponsor Excellence
Award, the first faculty member from Friendswood High School to ever win the
award. Mr. Dick is a member of Who's Who of American Teachers. His
professional affliations include TMEA, TMAA, TBA. He is active as an
adjudicator and clinician. Mr. Dick's pride and joy is his
wife Glenda, son Michael and his wife Amy, and daughter Lauren
and her husband Justin.
