Region Jazz Band auditions:
Alvin Community College, Sat., Sept. 26th, 2009. FHS Bandhall will
open at 8:00am, bus leaves at 8:15am from FHS and will return at approximately 2:00pm the same
day. Bring money for concessions and/or lunch. You must be academically eligible to

Tips for Practicing
1. Seek out private instruction.
2. Have a pencil, mirror ,and metronome with you at all times.
3. Tape record yourself as much as possible.
4. Practice during your most productive times of the day.
5. Set goals to chart your development and write out a schedule to
organize your practice time.
6. Have a checklist of priorities for every practice session.
7. Relax, concentrate and practice slowly.
8. Don't practice mistakes or bad habits, work them out.
9. Learn from your mistakes - don't be too hard on yourself.
10. Practice problem solving. Find new ways to achieve a better sound.
11. Practice hard parts longer.
12. Play everything with expression - always.
13. Be optimistic - don't let things fall apart after a mistake; make it an
opportunity to make things better.
14. Look for connections between your music making and to other
things.
15. Listen to recordings, especially those of your particular instrument.
