Dance class grades are of two types--weekly participation grades (50%)
and test grades (50%). Test grades include in-class performance
evaluations, history and choreography projects, public performances and written
exams.
Weekly grades are based on the students' daily performance in class.
Each day is worth 3 participation points with a possible 15 total points
per week. Points are lost for the following reasons:
Tardy--1 point
Chewing gum--1 point
Not dressing out--2 points, or 1 point if only one item is missing
Excessive talking--1 point
Not fully participating--1 to 3 points
Absence--3 points (can be made up--see "If you are absent" below)
Weekly Participation Grade Point System:
15 points (Perfect week--no lost points) = grade of 100 for the week
14 points = 93
13 points = 87
12 points = 80
11 points = 73
10 points = 67
9 points = 60
8 points = 53
7 points = 47
6 points = 40
5 points = 33
IF YOU ARE ABSENT: Find a dance-related article on the internet or in a publication and write a one-
page article summary. Magazines are available for students to borrow out of the dance room. You may
also write an essay about your previous dance history or a particular experience you have had with
dance. Your make-up essay can be hand written or typed.
