Welcome to Technical Theatre!  We are happy that you are here.   If you are enrolled in this class, then we assume that you have some knowledge of theatre and that your interest in the ‘workings’ of theatre is high.  This course is a practical, as well as an academic exploration of the production process.

PLEASE   NOTE: Practical Application #5 below means that:

PRODUCTION   POINTS: STUDENTS MUST FULFILL LOGGED IN CREW HOURS DURING THE SEMESTER.

CREW WORK HOURS ARE DONE AFTER SCHOOL.

Course Objectives:

1.      Perception:  The student develops concepts about the self, human relationships, and the environment using elements of drama and conventions of theatre.

2.      Creative expression:   The student applies design and theatre production skills.

3.      Historical/cultural heritage:  The student relates theatre to history, society, and culture.

4.      Response/Evaluation: The student responds to and evaluates theatre and theatrical performances.

5.      Practical application:  Crew assignments

******Technical Theatre I – 10 logged in hours of crew work *per semester.

************Technical Theatre II-IV - 25 logged in hours *per semester.

Course content:

I.               The student applies design and theatre production skills.

A.      Review the basic principals of Theatre.

B.      What is Technical Theatre? An overview of theatrical production elements and values.

C.      Theatre Safety and Etiquette.

D.      Theatre facility maintenance and operation.

E.      Six Principles of Technical Theatre

G.      Costumes:  The Design and the finished product.

H.      Make up for the stage.

II.             Using specific technical elements to safely provide setting and to support character and action in scripted and improvised productions.

D.    Stage Management

E.     Scenic Painting

F.     Analyzing and Interpreting scripts for Technical Theatre
